Denzel Curry Biography

Denzel Rae Don Curry (born February 16, 1995)[1] is an American hip hop recording artist from Carol City, Florida.[2] He released his debut full-length album titled Nostalgic 64 on September 3, 2013.[3] His follow-up album Imperial was released on March 9, 2016.

Early life
Born Denzel Rae Don Curry, the rapper has his roots in Carol City, Florida and is of Bahamian and Native American descent. The artist's ambitions started with poetry in Elementary School, then in the sixth grade he began rapping. His time was spent at a local Boys & Girls Club where he challenged others to rap battles, losing to his mentor when he would participate.[4] He attended Miami's Design And Architecture High School for his first two years of high school. After being expelled, Curry then attended Miami Carol City Senior High School where he started working on Nostalgic 64 while still attending class.[5]

Career
2011–2012: Various mixtapes
Curry released his first mixtape on September 24, 2011, titled King Remembered Underground Tape 1991–1995. He posted it on SpaceGhostPurrp's page, which promptly birthed Denzel's career. After the mixtape, he became a member of SpaceGhostPurrp's hip hop group, Raider Klan.[6][7]

He released his second mixtape King of the Mischievous South Vol. 1 Underground Tape 1996, which caught the attention of Earl Sweatshirt and other members of Odd Future.[4]

Curry's third mixtape titled Strictly for My R.V.I.D.X.R.S., was released after the death of Trayvon Martin, who also lived in Carol City and went to the same High School as Denzel Curry. His style of rap on this mixtape was inspired by Tupac Shakur.[4]

2013–14: Nostalgic 64
Before the album, Denzel Curry decided to leave Raider Klan and became a solo artist.[8] On September 3, 2013, Denzel Curry released his debut album Nostalgic 64 with features from JK the Reaper, Lil Ugly Mane, Mike G, Nell, Robb Bank$, Stephen A. Clark, and Yung Simmie.[9] In 2014, he was featured on Deniro Farrar's "Bow Down" off of the Rebirth EP[10] and on the track "Eyes of the World" off Dillon Cooper's mixtape X:XX.[11]

2015–present: 32 Zel/Planet Shrooms and Imperial
On June 9, 2015, Denzel released a double EP titled 32 Zel/Planet Shrooms. His first release in 2016 was the single "Flying Nimbus".

On March 9, 2016, released his second studio album, "Imperial" with guest appearances from Joey Badass and Rick Ross.

In June 2016, Curry was featured as one of the freshmen in XXL's 2016 Freshmen class.
