Rachael Taylor - AKA 1,000 Cuts lyrics

TITLE SEQUENCE Kilgrave runs out the CDC compound, holding his injured arm. Hogarth is leaving on her car. KILGRAVE: Stop! Kilgrave approaches the vehicle, leading Hogarth to get a gun and point it at Kilgrave. HOGARTH:Stay away from me! KILGRAVE: Throw that bloody thing away, and unlock the door! [She does so, he enters through the pa**enger door] Drive! The car drives away. Jessica comes out the door, but finds nothing, to her despair. CUT TO: STREET Hogarth brakes the car. HOGARTH: [hyperventilating] I didn't know. Oh, my God. I didn't know you would... KILGRAVE: Hey, I'm not the bad guy here. You wanted this. HOGARTH: Your own mother. KILGRAVE: She was a cold-blooded monster who performed barbaric experiments on her own son. What happened to her was justice. The world will not miss her. Or my father, when I get my hands on him. For Christ's sake, go! HOGARTH: [starting the engine] Where? KILGRAVE: To a doctor, obviously! Someone you trust. CUT TO: COMPOUND Pan from a fainted Albert to Louise's body in the flooded hermetic cell, and finally a sobbing Trish outside, who is taking bullets from a revolver and hitting them against her head. Jessica comes in and tries to restrain her friend. JESSICA: Trish! Stop that. Stop it. TRISH: I have to put a bullet in my head. No. Put it in my head. JESSICA: Stop. [grabs Trish, who bites her hand] Ow! Jesus! TRISH: It has to be in my head. It has to be in my head! JESSICA: Open your mouth. [she puts a bullet inside Trish's mouth, and puts her hand in front of her lips] There's a bullet in your head. Okay? You did what he said. You followed his command. Okay? [Trish nods] Spit it out. [she does so] TRISH: I couldn't stop. JESSICA: It's okay. You're okay. Clemons walks in. JESSICA: Okay. You're okay. [stands up, talks to Clemons] Is anything broken? CLEMONS: Nothing that can't be fixed. [stares offscreen] Can't say the same for him. Camera shows the unconscious Albert TRISH: I'll call an ambulance. CLEMONS: No, don't. JESSICA: No, don't. Kilgrave's not far. You call it in, he gets further away, and then we're stuck sitting in questioning. CLEMONS: She's right. I'll secure the scene, get some guys in who won't muck up the evidence. Jessica comes near the command console JESSICA: Someone cut the fail-safe wire. Albert wakes up, notices the body in front of him ALBERT: Oh, God. Oh, no! [getting up] Oh, my poor Louise. What did he do to you? My heart. JESSICA: No! Albert starts moving towards the scissors floating, Jessica runs for him ALBERT: [grabbing the scissors] I have to cut out my heart! JESSICA: No. Jessica disarms Albert, tries to restrain him CLEMONS: Tape! JESSICA: You're not cutting anything. Clemons approaches a duct tape roll CLEMONS: Tape! Clemons hands the roll to Trish, and after Jessica puts Albert's hands behind the back, she pushes him toward Trish JESSICA: Bind him! Trish tapes his hands ALBERT: I have to die. JESSICA: Later. Right now, I'm gonna find your psychotic son. TRISH: Jess, wait! [runs towards her] You'll lose. I've seen how powerful he is now. A couple words and you're his weapon. JESSICA: He can't control me anymore. TRISH: It's time to get realistic. JESSICA: No, Trish, he said, "Let go"; and I didn't. I'm free. Cut to: OUTSIDE WENDY'S HOUSE Hogarth rings the doorbell as Kilgrave continues to wince in pain nearby. KILGRAVE: Good God, woman. [pounds door] Open the door! Bleeding human being here! [Wendy opens the door] I need medical attention. Kilgrave walks in, followed by Hogarth WENDY: Jesus. Jeri, who is that? You do not get to come here and barge in on me and make demands... I don't know what... KILGRAVE: I am your patient. Get your medical bag and fix me! Wendy goes up the stairs to get her supplies. Hogarth sighs. KILGRAVE: Interesting.I tell you to take me to a doctor you trust, you bring me to the woman you shat on. HOGARTH: You know what? Divorce papers can wait, you don't have to make her sign them. KILGRAVE: 'Course I do. I'm a man of my word... if I feel like it. Shut that door. Hogarth closes the still-open front door CUT TO: COMPOUND Everyone is gathered around a table. TRISH: How can you be sure? JESSICA: I can feel it. CLEMONS: It's true, I saw it. She didn't move when he told her to. JESSICA: At my old house, at the police station, he said he wanted me to choose. It's because he knew he couldn't control me. ALBERT: You're immune to him? JESSICA: Yes. [to Trish] Will you take him to his motel and stay with him until the command wears off? TRISH: Of course. ALBERT: Louise always believed we'd find a vaccine. JESSICA: What? ALBERT: For the virus Kevin emits. JESSICA: It's a virus? ALBERT: Micro-particles in the air. We worked for a vaccine for decades. Almost had it, but you... you might be the missing ingredient. CLEMONS: A cure for Kilgrave? ALBERT: To inoculate everyone around him. JESSICA: There's no time! TRISH: How long would it take? ALBERT: Well, if I could get a biological sample from Jessica, I'd know if it was working within a day. JESSICA: No, the tape stays or you'll do everything you can to stab yourself. ALBERT: Cut my heart out. JESSICA:Yes, this is a great time to correct my phrasing. TRISH: I'll be your hands. You guide me. JESSICA:Fine. [pushing back her sleeves and removing her gloves] Take my blood. Take my piss. Take my spleen if you think it'll help. ALBERT: The gauze from the first aid kit. Wipe her arm. [Trish pa**es the gauze on Jessica's gash] Get as much uncontaminated blood as you can. I have lab equipment at my motel. JESSICA: Across from Barbuto on Washington. TRISH: Okay, let's go. Trish finishes wiping Jessica, grabs her things, goes after a leaving Albert JESSICA:I'll call you when I find him. TRISH: Okay. JESSICA: [to Clemons]Give me ten minutes to clear the area. CLEMONS: It was Hogarth. Who cut the wire. JESSICA:Yeah, I know. Process of elimination. CLEMONS: Hey, hey. You got some, um...[gestures around face] JESSICA:sh**. [tries cleaning up as she leaves the room] CUT TO: WENDY'S HOUSE Wendy is patching up Kilgrave's arm as Hogarth walks around. KILGRAVE: I bought Jessica her bloody childhood home and restored it perfectly. If that's not a grand romantic gesture, I don't know what the bloody hell is. You know what I mean, Wendy. WENDY: Yeah. I took her to Paris for our ten-year anniversary. HOGARTH: Shut up, Wendy. KILGRAVE:You shut up. WENDY: She spent the entire time on the phone with a client. KILGRAVE:Well, I gave and gave and gave, and she took and took. WENDY: You feel violated. KILGRAVE:Precisely, yeah. You ever think about revenge? WENDY: Oh, sure. But how do you avenge d**h by a thousand cuts? [finishes the stitches, starts taking off the surgical gloves] All the little slices over the years, then the final stab, the secretary. KILGRAVE: That's nothing compared to Jessica. She's crueler than my parents. What does she want from me? [to Hogarth] That wasn't a rhetorical question. Tell me. HOGARTH: She wants you to pay for what you did to her. KILGRAVE: I treated her better than anyone ever has. HOGARTH: She wants you to pay for what you did to Hope Shlottman. Wendy bandages Kilgrave's arm KILGRAVE: Yeah, tell me something I don't know. HOGARTH: Hope Shlottman was pregnant with your child. Jessica and I helped her to abort it. Kilgrave has a stunned expression on his face. KILGRAVE: Honesty. Refreshing, isn't it? Yeah? Anything else? HOGARTH: I kept the remains... to see if your power could be replicated. It didn't work. WENDY: You're disgusting. KILGRAVE:She's pragmatic. Where's my child now? HOGARTH: Cold storage, Hammond Labs. KILGRAVE: Does Jessica have plans for it? HOGARTH: She doesn't know it exists. Kilgrave scoffs WENDY: You're done. Kilgrave puts his shirt back, Hogarth's cell phone rings. HOGARTH: It's Jessica. KILGRAVE:All right. Answer. Admit to nothing. Do not tell her I'm here. Oh, find out where my father is. HOGARTH: Jessica? JESSICA: [on the pa**enger seat of a cab]What happened to you? I turned around and you were gone. HOGARTH: Well, you said to run, so I ran. JESSICA: Kilgrave's in the wind. Where are you now? HOGARTH: At home, just hanging low. What happened to the detective? And Kilgrave's father? JESSICA: Trish took the detective to the hospital. Albert's gone. He's probably with Kilgrave. Just stay put, I'll keep you posted. HOGARTH: No, no, I... I saw Kilgrave run, and he wasn't with his father. JESSICA: Then he's somewhere hiding from his a**hole son. HOGARTH: So you don't know where he is, where Albert is? JESSICA: Nope. WENDY: Is that Pam? Tell her I said hi. [Kilgrave shushes her] What? Just trying to be civil. HOGARTH: Gotta go, bye. [Jessica, who heard the whole ordeal, has an intrigued look] KILGRAVE: That's bollocks. She didn't say he was dead, which means she saved him, and she knows exactly where he is. [doorbell ringing] It's her. sh**! [Hogarth leaves the room, Kilgrave hands a knife to Wendy]You want d**h by a thousand cuts. Do it! Hogarth gets her purse, and then Wendy arrives. Wendy grazes Hogarth below the eye, she gasps and falls. WENDY: One. CUT TO: COMPOUND Clemons is cleaning up the operating table, hears the door opening, gets a wrench and positions behind the doorway to surprise who comes. It turns out to be Simpson, who points a gun to Clemons and then laughs and puts it down. SIMPSON: Man... you scared the hell out of me. CLEMONS: Who are you? SIMPSON: I'm Sergeant Simpson. Uh, you've seen me at the precinct. You're Detective Clemons, right? Yeah, you're kind of a legend. You got a hell of a clearance rate. CLEMONS: Sorry, Sarge. Out of context, out of uniform. SIMPSON:Uh-huh. What brings you here? [points to Clemons' bandaged hand] That looks serious, huh? What happened? CLEMONS: A bit of an altercation. How'd you say you got here? SIMPSON: Uh, Trish Walker called me, from here, so I came as soon as I could. CLEMONS: Well, this floor is on lockdown. I got it under control. SIMPSON: Well, it looks like you could use a hand. I mean... [chuckles as he points to the injured hand] Sorry, I didn't mean it like that. Simpson limps and gasps as he approaches the hermetic room. CLEMONS: What's wrong with your leg, Officer? SIMPSON: [seeing Louise] Jesus. Who's this? CLEMONS: Victim of a k**er who has abilities. We got all the evidence we need now to put that ba*tard away. I'm gonna call for back-up, get me a medic, while you check the perimeter outside. SIMPSON: But if this k**er has abilities, like you say... well, maybe the system won't be able to contain him. CLEMONS: That's not your call, Sarge. SIMPSON: Well, the guy isn't a purse snatcher, Detective. He's a terrorist. Kilgrave can't be put on trial. Evidence is irrelevant. CLEMONS: You know who he is. SIMPSON: Yeah, so do you, obviously. So you know that we can't wait for the system. There's no jail. There's no evidence. There's only justice. [Clemons takes out his cellphone, Simpson points the gun at him] Uh-uh. I have no other option. I'm taking him out. CLEMONS: Well, he's gone. Jessica's looking for him now. SIMPSON: And where's Trish Walker? Did he hurt her? Did he do something to her? CLEMONS: She's with someone. A scientist who thinks that he can stop Kilgrave with a vaccine. SIMPSON: Where are they? I'm sorry. [puts down the gun] It's ever since Kilgrave, I don't know who to trust. [offers Clemons his gun] I don't need a weapon to make a vaccine. [Clemons gestures refusing] Trish Walker, she trusts me. She's the one who called me. So please, just tell me where she is. CLEMONS: A hotel on Washington.Across from Barbuto. Simpson shoots Clemons in the head. He then opens the cabinet, finds a gallon of accelerant, and pours it on Clemons' body. Simpson sets it on fire, and walks away from the flames. Cut to WENDY'S HOUSE Wendy is still inflicting cuts on Hogarth HOGARTH: A thousand cuts, Wendy, it's just a few words... WENDY: Seventeen. Eighteen. HOGARTH: Wendy! Doorbell rings HOGARTH: [wailing while she crawls backwards trying to evade Wendy] Please! Please, stop! A thousand cuts... WENDY: [grazing Hogarth's legs]Nineteen. Twenty. HOGARTH:[yelling] Please! Oh, my God. Hogarth goes to the door, tries to open it, but then gets stabbed in the hand while rattling the knob WENDY: Twenty-one. [knocking on door continues] Twenty-two. Twenty-three. Twenty-four. [Hogarth grabs the blade, pushes Wendy's head down. Wendy then pulls the knife, making it cut Hogarth's palm] Twenty-five. Hogarth grabs Wendy on her shoulders, tackles her and both go over a couch before crashing on the floor. As the pounding on door continues, Wendy climbs atop Hogarth and slices her again WENDY: Twenty-six. Twenty-seven. [gla** shattering is heard] Twenty-eight. Twenty-nine. Pam enters and hits Wendy in the head with a vase. Wendy hits her head on a table while she falls, a fatal injury. A panting and bruised Hogarth starts to gets up. Jessica runs into the open door, and Hogarth notices her entering. Jessica approaches Pam and the still bleeding corpse of Wendy. JESSICA: What did you do? HOGARTH: [breathing shallowly] I didn't know. How could I have known? PAM: Wendy was trying to k** her, and I... I stopped her with... Pam lets the vase loose. JESSICA:Is Kilgrave still in the house? PAM: Kilgrave was here? JESSICA:Do you know where he was going? HOGARTH: [breathing heavily] Find his father. Jessica takes a last look at Wendy, and goes to the door PAM: Don't... don't go. JESSICA:Sorry, Pam. What you did was self-defense. [walks towards Hogarth] But what you helped Kilgrave do... that was murder. You are on your own. [walks out the door] HOGARTH: It's okay. [Sniffling] I'm gonna handle this. I'm gonna handle everything. CUT TO: ALBERT'S HOTEL ROOM Trish is on the phone as Albert looks at many beakers at a table. TRISH: He's coming for his father? ALBERT: She wants to use me as bait. TRISH: [stutters] That's not what she's saying. Cut to Jessica walking down the street talking on the phone to Trish. JESSICA: I have to use him as bait. TRISH: He's not finished working on the vaccine. JESSICA: Which is a long shot. TRISH: Jess, Kilgrave is wounded. He's running from you. We've got time. JESSICA:Trish, your optimism is getting in the way. TRISH: It's not optimism, it's survival. Jess, he made me want to k** myself. I never want to feel that again. If there is even a chance a vaccine will work... JESSICA: [sighs] He said he'd know within 24 hours. Good? TRISH: [turns off the phone]She has total confidence in you. Cut to: OUTSIDE JESSICA'S BUILDING A flyer about Ruben's disappearance is glued to the door. The camera then shows Robyn holding many of those flyers as she and Malcolm go down the stairs to the street. ROBYN:You think we should wallpaper the scaffolding first, or are trees better? MALCOLM: Do you even have $50,000? ROBYN: Are you putting a price tag on my brother's life? MALCOLM: No, it's just... the poster says... ROBYN:We shared a womb! You said you'd help. MALCOLM: [stutters]Maybe he just needed some time to himself, you know? ROBYN:He can't even tie his shoes without my permission. MALCOLM: I'm serious. ROBYN:I am, too, that's why he always wears slip-ons. If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem. Are you part of the problem? [extends some flyers to Malcolm, he gets them] Do every windshield on the block. They approach a car, Robyn lifts the wiper, Malcolm puts a flyer in the windshield. Jessica is coming home. Robyn runs towards her, and hands over some flyers ROBYN: If you see something, say something. Jessica grabs the flyers, turns her head, seeing Malcolm off-screen, and goes back to Robyn. As Robyn walks away and starts pinning the flyers to nearby doors and fences, Jessica goes to Malcolm. JESSICA: Have you lost your mind? MALCOLM:Possibly. JESSICA: Look, I know you feel guilty, but this isn't gonna help. It's just gonna make it worse. MALCOLM:I know, but she feels better doing something. JESSICA: You and I both know that he is not missing. MALCOLM:Well, technically, he is. JESSICA: He's not coming back. MALCOLM:Then we should tell her. I found her sobbing in the stairwell. Jessica turns her head to look at Robyn, goes back to Malcolm, and then throws the flyers on her hand to the floor as she goes back on her walk home ROBYN: Hey, that took me three hours at Kinko's, cougar! [grabs the flyers] Why would she do that? Malcolm... why would she throw out my fliers? MALCOLM:I don't know. I'm gonna hit the subway with these. Maybe, um... somebody saw him get on a train. [walks away] ROBYN: [while she caresses one of the flyers] Babe, we're gonna get you back. CUT TO: JESSICA'S APARTMENT Jessica enters, takes off her jacket, and goes to the kitchen, where she drinks whiskey straight from the bottle. Kilgrave then approaches her from behind... KILGRAVE: Hello, Jessica. Jessica turns around and pushes Kilgrave towards a cabinet, pressing her forearm against his neck JESSICA: You can't control me anymore, a**hole. KILGRAVE: [inhales] I've known that for some time. You, however, a little slow on the uptake. JESSICA: I could k** you right here and right now. KILGRAVE: But you won't, because you don't know what will happen when I die. [Jessica lets Kilgrave loose] Good choice. There would've been a rash of suicides across the neighborhood, and who would've been to blame? JESSICA: Not me, you prick. KILGRAVE: [chuckling] You keep telling yourself that. Maybe you'll actually believe it someday. [walking towards her office] You know what I call this phase of our relationship? JESSICA: Finished. KILGRAVE: I call it "the wrath." First, the Shlottmans, then their daughter, then that baby-faced boy who slit his own throat, Mummy, obviously, [inhales sharply] your lawyer, presumably... It's quite a roster you've inspired. Who's next? JESSICA: You. KILGRAVE: I doubt it. JESSICA: You think I won't k** you because some strangers might stab themselves? KILGRAVE: Uh, poison, actually, but no. It's because you want what I have. JESSICA: A stupid name and a d**h wish? KILGRAVE: I have Hope. The person, not the feeling. Well, the feeling, too. I'm a hopeful man. JESSICA: Where is she? KILGRAVE: She's the living embodiment of your guilt, isn't she? Jessica now pushes Kilgrave against the wall JESSICA:I don't have to k** you! Jessica presses the injured arm, Kilgrave screams in pain KILGRAVE: For God's sake! In prison, of course, until her release papers go through tomorrow morning! [Jessica releases him] I visited the DA today. [drops some papers in Jessica's table] I suggested to him that Hope was innocent. He agreed, as did the judge who signed Hope's release papers. I am exceedingly convincing. JESSICA: Why? KILGRAVE: Oh, I could have staged her escape, but she'd be on the lam for the rest of her life, so I procured her release quite legitimately. Well, there's a paper trail, in any event. JESSICA: You want more wrath. One more body. KILGRAVE: Not Hope Shlottman's. She walks out of the prison doors tomorrow, and your conscience gets wiped clean. Unless I change my mind. JESSICA: Your father. KILGRAVE:See how well you know me? Dad for Hope. You get the better part of that deal, by the way. [scoffs] JESSICA:What a bargain. KILGRAVE: I stay as far away from you as I can get, and you go back to your life of... mediocrity and underachievement. JESSICA: [walking away] I don't know if I can track Albert down. [takes another sip of whiskey] KILGRAVE: Mmm. What you need is an ace P.I. Know any? Cut to: INTERROGATION ROOM Pam is handcuffed while sitting at the interrogation room table. Door opens, Hogarth walks in. HOGARTH: [to the cop that opened]Thank you. [door closes] Have they questioned you? Have you said anything? [PAM nods negatively] That's good. Now we just need to... PAM: How did Kilgrave even know Wendy? How did he get there? HOGARTH: It's complicated. PAM: That's what you say when you're lying. I'm on all your calls. It's what you say when you're... when you're lying. HOGARTH: Pam. Pammy. You're not thinking straight right now. PAM: I thought maybe you were having it out with Wendy. I was worried. HOGARTH:I should have called. I'm sorry. PAM: You brought him there. To make Wendy sign the divorce papers. HOGARTH:That's not how it happened. PAM: Then tell me he made you do it. Just tell me that. HOGARTH:He did. It was complicated. PAM: You did this. HOGARTH: You told me to handle it. That's what you said. PAM: So you turn me into a murderer? HOGARTH:I didn't do anything. You chose to pick up that thing... and crush her skull. You did that. PAM: So now that I understand your bullsh**... it's all that I see when I look at you. You're repulsive. Door opens, a detective enters DETECTIVE: We're taking you to booking. The detective starts opening Pam's handcuffs HOGARTH: Don't say anything to anyone. PAM: Detective, I need to call a lawyer. DETECTIVE:She said she was your lawyer. PAM: No. I have no idea who this woman is. Pam is taken away. Hogarth sits, bows her head down Cut to: JESSICA'S HOUSE Kilgrave sits on Jessica's table, anxious. Then it's shown she's inside the bathroom, texting Trish "Don't have 24 hours. Need it now." KILGRAVE: You're stalling, Jessica. JESSICA:I'm peeing! KILGRAVE: No, you're not. You're buying time. Jessica flushes, walks back to the office JESSICA:For what? KILGRAVE: For dear old Dad to run and hide, like the coward that he is. JESSICA:You can control minds, but you can't read them for sh**. KILGRAVE: He won't come willingly, you know. He's not gonna care that some young woman's life's at stake. JESSICA: Gla** houses, a**hole. KILGRAVE: [chuckles] Oh, God, I'll miss that. Your provincial yet snappy repartee. We make a good team. JESSICA: You're a lot of sh**ty things, but I never thought you were delusional. KILGRAVE: Oh. Oh, I see things very clearly. JESSICA:Not if you think I could ever feel anything for you other than pure disgust. KILGRAVE: Well, that's crap. JESSICA:I never, not for one second... KILGRAVE: No, not one second. Eighteen. JESSICA:In what universe? KILGRAVE: Ours. On that rooftop. You remember. Flashback: Cut to BALCONY Jessica and Kilgrave in a balcony, he serves her wine, brushes her hair and kisses her. KILGRAVE: It had been 12 hours. I timed it. Cut back to the APARTMENT KILGRAVE:I hadn't told you to do anything. And then for 18 seconds, I wasn't controlling you. And you stayed with me. With me, because you wanted to. JESSICA:That's why you thought you had a shot with me? KILGRAVE:You can't tell me you don't remember. JESSICA:I remember vividly. I had waited so long for that moment. For one single opportunity to get away from you. Cut back to flashback: BALCONY When Kilgrave approaches Jessica to kiss her... JESSICA:It's getting chilly, let's go in. I'll clean this up, and we'll continue inside. KILGRAVE: All right, darling. Kilgrave walks away. Jessica gets near the balcony, sees a horse walking on the street. She smiles, and jumps to the sidewalk, landing without any damage. She climbs on the horse, and rides it away. After neighing is heard, it cuts back to Jessica on the balcony, where she hears a car honk. It was all a dream, her face gets worried KILGRAVE: Jessica, come in, darling. [she continues to stare at the street below] Come down from there. Back to APARTMENT. KILGRAVE: What revisionist bullsh**! JESSICA: I remember everything. KILGRAVE: You didn't jump. JESSICA: Because I wasn't fast enough. Getting you out of my head was like prying fungus from a window. I couldn't think. KILGRAVE: I know your face. I saw you... JESSICA: You saw what you wanted to see. KILGRAVE: I remember... JESSICA: I remember everything! Back to the flashback: BALCONY. KILGRAVE: Come down now, Jessica! [she climbs down] Why don't you listen to me? JESSICA:Because I don't want to. KILGRAVE:If you don't listen to me, what is the point of having ears? Answer me! JESSICA:To listen to someone else. KILGRAVE:You never appreciate anything I do for you. [grabs a knife] If you can't listen to me, you don't need ears. [gives it to Jessica] Cut them off. She starts slicing off her left ear, and then Kilgrave takes the knife off her hand. KILGRAVE:Stop. Stop. Stop. It's all right. It's all right. [grabs her shoulders] I'm here, Jessica. [hugs her] I'll always be here. Cut back to APARTMENT. KILGRAVE:You wanted to stay with me. Admit it. JESSICA:You admit this. Jessica shows Kilgrave the scar behind her ear, then punches him in the face, sending him flying across the room JESSICA: Speak up, a**hole. I'm all ears. Jessica thuds her foot on the ground, and sighs Cut to OUTSIDE BROADWAY RESTAURANT EMMA: And sometimes, on good days... [shows Emma is on the Kilgrave Support Group on a table inside] I even catch myself smiling again. MALCOLM: Thanks, Emma. [Clair smiles as she grabs Emma's arm] I'm glad you're returning to yourself. Anyone else? Don? DON: I already bared my soul, Malcolm. And it hasn't gotten me back my son. MALCOLM:Yeah, we all share the same shame. JACKSON: I'm not ashamed. It's not my fault. We're victims. MALCOLM: Well, we're not anymore. Not if we help each other... JACKSON: Who have you helped? CLAIR: Malcolm, you don't have to talk. MALCOLM: [clears throat] Well, I've helped my friend. She saved me, and I saved her. Kilgrave set her up. For murder. And he k**ed this... this guy who hadn't done anything to anyone. He made him cut his own throat. And I fixed it. All right? I wrapped his body in a comforter and dragged it to the elevator, and, I mean, it's like his ghost is still in the building. And his sister, I mean, she's just... she's destroyed. But I can't tell her the truth until Jessica gets Kilgrave. And she's so close. But, I just... I can't lie anymore. [Malcolm exhales sharply] CLAIR: Thank you for your share. Malcolm sighs, Robyn approaches the table ROBYN: Yeah. Thank you so much for that illuminating share. MALCOLM:Oh, my God, you shouldn't have followed me. I am so sorry, Robyn. ROBYN: Sorry to bust up the kumbaya circle jerk, but... EMMA: There's no cross talk here. ROBYN: Oh, really? 'Cause I'm cross and I'm talking, so blow me, Emma! MALCOLM:Hey, let me just take you home. ROBYN: You murdered my brother. MALCOLM:Kilgrave murdered him. ROBYN:Where's Ruben's body? Where is his heart? Where are his little toes? Holy sh**, I feel like I've been cut in half. CLAIR: Kilgrave has caused us all enormous loss. ROBYN: So I've heard. [sarcastic] Oh, poor me. I feel your sadness, but where is your rage? Aren't you sick of hearing yourselves talk and talk and talk? DON: I am. MALCOLM: Well, look, too bad, I mean... That's all we've got. Jessica is the only one that can take on Kilgrave. ROBYN: Are you so sure that's what she's gonna do? MALCOLM: She will try like hell. DON: While we sit here and wait. ROBYN:Would this Kilgrave cat have hurt any of you if Jessica Jones hadn't pissed him off? That's what I'm piecing together from all of this goddamn sharing. Each of his atrocities can be traced back to her. What exactly does she want? CLAIR: Jessica brought us all together. ROBYN:To control you. MALCOLM: [Malcolm sighs] She is one of us. DON: Then why isn't she here? ROBYN:Maybe she's in cahoots with the psycho. MALCOLM: No one is in cahoots with anyone, all right? There is no conspiracy. You don't know sh** about Kilgrave or what he is capable of. ROBYN:Well, you're right, my two-faced former friend. But I do know Jessica Jones. [to the group] And I am gonna track that wannabe gumshoe down and make her explain herself to me. Who's with me? DON: She's right. Jessica knows more than she's letting on. MALCOLM:Look, trust me, this is not a good idea. ROBYN:And why should we trust you? You've just admitted to being a pathological liar. Clair? Emma? [to Jackson] Trendy guy? JACKSON: Yeah. ROBYN: Then let's go pay her a visit. Cut to JESSICA'S APARTMENT Jessica is on the phone with Hope. HOPE: So he's dead? JESSICA: You don't have to worry about Kilgrave anymore. HOPE: Because you k**ed him? JESSICA: Hope, you'll be free tomorrow. Just think about that. Cut to Hope on a payphone in the correction facility. HOPE: I still can't believe it. JESSICA:Believe it.I'm gonna pick you up tomorrow, take you to a great restaurant. HOPE: A 5 Napkin Burger. JESSICA: [scoffs]Perfect. And then I'll take you to the airport and you'll fly home. HOPE: I don't have a home. They all blame me. They even told my brother that I was dead. JESSICA:Hope, think about the big picture. You're healthy. You're sane. HOPE: That's true. Sanity was touch and go for a while there. JESSICA:And you're gonna be free in a matter of hours. HOPE:Big picture. JESSICA:I'll see you tomorrow. HOPE:Don't be late. JESSICA:Not a chance. Footsteps approaching rapidly, then pounding on door. MALCOLM: Jessica? Open up, quick! Indistinct conversations are heard as she goes to open the door. MALCOLM:I made a terrible mistake. JACKSON: Go, go, go! Jackson holds the door before Malcolm can close it. Don enters and tries to grab Jessica, but she hits him. MALCOLM: Robyn knows. JESSICA: [grunting] What did you do, you told her? MALCOLM:No, not intentionally. Jackson presses Jessica against the wall. Malcolm hits his back. MALCOLM: Get off... Jessica pushes Jackson away, and has to handle both him and an emerging Don. Then Robyn attacks her with a plank, hitting Jessica on the head. ROBYN: You k**ed Ruben, you b**h! MALCOLM:What the hell are you guys doing? This is insanity! Robyn hits Jessica again, she falls, with blood on her forehead. Before Jessica faints, she sees, tilted, Robyn going further into her apartment. ROBYN: Ruben? [exhales] Ruben? Robyn finds a restrained Kilgrave, who is taped in his mouth and limbs ROBYN: She has a captive! You're gonna be okay. Oh, it's okay. [rips the tape off Kilgrave's mouth, he soon cracks a slasher smile]You're gonna be fine. Kilgrave laughs. Cut to ALBERT'S APARTMENT Trish is using a pipette to drop results of the serum work. ALBERT: Just one single drop. More than that, you'll destroy all our work. TRISH: Okay. Hey. Eyes here. [pushes Albert's head up] The virus will wear off in a couple hours. Okay? [door knocks] Who is it? SIMPSON: It's me. Trish? Trish opens the door TRISH: What are you doing here? How are you even standing? You were in the hospital. SIMPSON: No, I'm okay. Kozlov's a great doctor. TRISH:Your pupils are dilated. SIMPSON: Yeah, that's because I'm on meds. Well, I did almost die, after all. TRISH: What kind of meds? SIMPSON: It doesn't matter. And, you know, I feel much better than I look.[sighs] Trish, if you're making a vaccine, then I wanna help. Detective Clemons told me. [to Albert] What happened to you? You the scientist? I'm Simpson. [to Trish] Why is he restrained? TRISH: Kilgrave told him to cut out his heart. SIMPSON: You think you can make a vaccine? TRISH: It turns out Kilgrave is a virus. ALBERT: Quite literally. That's how he controls people. SIMPSON: He's British. Trish strutters SIMPSON: Why is a foreign scientist holed up in a dump like this? TRISH: Simpson, stop it. SIMPSON: What makes you so sure that you can make this vaccine? You know something special about Kilgrave? TRISH: Don't answer that. ALBERT: He's my son. Simpson grabs Albert puts him lying on a couch, and grabs his throat TRISH: No! Don't hurt him. SIMPSON: You made him. Trish tries releasing Albert from Simpson, he slaps her and Trish hits her head against the window. Hearing her grunt, he goes after Trish. SIMPSON: Oh, God, I'm so, so sorry. TRISH:What is wrong with you? SIMPSON:I didn't mean to. TRISH:They've messed you up. You're messed up in the head! [starts pushing him away] Get out! SIMPSON:No! No, it won't happen again. TRISH:It won't happen again because you're leaving. Go! Trish pushes Simpson out the door. After she locks it, she stares at the vial of pills she grabbed from Simpson. Cut to OUTSIDE JESSICA'S BUILDING, THE FOLLOWING DAY A cell phone rings. The unconscious Jessica is shown on her floor, and then struggles to get up. JESSICA: Oh, sh**. [gets the cellphone in her pocket] Yeah? HOPE: Where are you? JESSICA:What time is it? HOPE: You said that you'd be here when I got out. JESSICA: Don't move. Cut to Hope at the payphone, but now in civilian clothes HOPE: Why? JESSICA: Lock yourself in the bathroom if you have to. HOPE: He's alive, isn't he? He's still out there. JESSICA: Don't move! [clumsily gets up] Cut to: STREET Jessica runs, all the way to the prison. Inside, she goes to the front desk. JESSICA:Hi, I'm here to pick up an inmate. Former inmate. She was getting released today. CLERK: Name? JESSICA: Jessica Jones. No, sorry, that's my name. Her name is Hope. Hope Shlottman. CLERK: Shlottman was released 20 minutes ago. JESSICA: I told her to wait for me. CLERK: Some guy picked her up. WOMAN: Jessica Jones? Said woman, a police officer, approaches Jessica JESSICA: Yeah? OFFICER: He's at your favorite restaurant. He said to bring Dad or lose all hope. A concerned Jessica walks out CUT TO: ALBERT'S ROOM Albert is pouring liquids to finish the vaccine, while Trish stares at the pills. TRISH: I know what people look like on speed. This is...There's more to this. Simpson was so intense, focused, and he's wounded, but not feeling it. ALBERT: Probably some kind of combat enhancement for wakefulness. To numb the pain center, push the adrenergic system for strength and stamina. TRISH: He's part of a private research program. ALBERT: Unregulated, no doubt. You can grow someone's strength or power, but you can't grow a corresponding conscience. There's no pill for that. Knocking on door is heard JESSICA: Open the door. [Trish does so] Tell me you have the vaccine. ALBERT: I do, but there's only one way to test it. JESSICA: He took Hope. TRISH:What? JESSICA: He'll trade her for you. Cut to NIKU Shot of the restaurant, then Jessica and Albert (who is holding a vial) getting to it. JESSICA: He'll have contingencies in place. People ready to stab themselves or something. ALBERT: I'm trembling. My God, I'm such a coward. [breathing heavily] JESSICA: You're not a coward, okay? I want you to know, [grabs his hand] right here and right now that you are not a coward. Albert sprays himself with the serum before following Jessica up the stairs. She opens the door. Inside, Malcolm, Robyn, Jackson and Don are standing atop the bar counter with nooses around their necks. KILGRAVE: You can't say these stroppy tosspots don't deserve it. Kilgrave is shown at another table eating pasta, accompanied by Hope; Jessica inspects the hostages, with Albert close by, before getting near Kilgrave's table. JESSICA: Your father is here. Now give me the girl. KILGRAVE: Step forward. The hostages take a step forward, getting closer to the edge JESSICA: Stop this! KILGRAVE: Don't bark orders at me. Say you're sorry. A sad Robyn stares at Jessica JESSICA: [exhales heavily] I'm sorry. KILGRAVE: About hitting me. JESSICA:Yes. All of it. KILGRAVE: Stay. [the hostages stand still] See? I still have all the control. HOPE: Jessica. k** him now. JESSICA: We had a deal. KILGRAVE: "Abandon hope, all ye who enter here." That's the words written on the doorway to hell. HOPE: k** him or he'll keep hurting people! KILGRAVE: Let me handle this. She'll never k** me. Despite her calloused, hard-bitten, and, frankly, poorly styled facade, despite her several problems, she still hopes that, at her core, she might just be a hero. But only if she can save you. [tries touching Hope's face, she recoils in disgust] The ultimate innocent victim. [looks at Albert] Father, come here. Now! While Albert appears to resist, eventually his feet start to move; the antidote failed. ALBERT: [to Jessica] I'm sorry. KILGRAVE: That's nice, Dad. Nice and close. Aw, look at you trembling there. Still spineless, I see. [gets up, hugs his father] It's just you and me now, Dad. Hope gets up, breaks a wine gla** on the table KILGRAVE: You can't k** me, silly girl. HOPE: But Jessica can! JESSICA: What are you doing? Hope stabs herself in the throat. KILGRAVE: Step forward! The hostages walk out the balcony, and start to asphyxiate. While Kilgrave leaves with his father and a bleeding Hope crashes to the ground, Jessica is forced to break down the railing from which the ropes hang. Afterwards, she runs to Hope, and presses a handkerchief against her carotid. JESSICA: Hope! Hope, why would you do this? HOPE: [gasping and sobbing] You can k** him now. JESSICA:Hope. HOPE:Tell me. Tell me! Tell me. [both are sobbing] JESSICA: I will. I'll k** him. Hope contorts and dies. Jessica gets sad, and then really angry. END CREDITS
