The NES, short for Nintendo Entertainment System, is the first home console produced by the legendary gaming company Nintendo. It was made for the 3rd generation of video game consoles. It was released to Japan on July 15, 1983. At the time, it was called the Famicom or Family Computer. On October 18 of 1985, it was later shipped overseas and released in North America. Finally, on the first of September in 1986, its European lovers could finally take one home. Starting with 18 launch titles, it went to have over 700 licensed titles. There are also 113 known unlicensed video games to been made for the NES. Speaking of games, this console had a lot of cla**ics in it's library. Most notably Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, Dragon Quest, Metroid, Metal Gear, and Final Fantasy. Also, games for the more harden, seasoned player: Battletoads, Contra, Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels (as so known as Super Mario Bros. 2 in Japan), Ninja Gaiden, and Ghost n Goblins. The console had a very heavy impact on video gaming. It was the first at home console with a D-pad. And with the addition of the blockbuster titles (most would later become well known series), it was a staple in the history of gaming. It won over many hearts with it's highly addictive 2D platformers and RPG's, short for Role Playing Games.
