MLB - MLB Commissioner Acceptance Speech lyrics

Thank you, Bill. I have to say I'm tremendously honored by the confidence that the owners showed in me today, electing me to be the tenth commissioner in baseball. I agree with Bill. I have very big shoes to fill in following Commissioner Selig. I'm also very excited. I'm anxious to get back to New York to see my wife, Colleen, and our four children, Megan; Mike; Jane; and Mary-Claire. They've been following via text message. It's not a very satisfactory form of interaction at a time like this, so I'm very anxious to get home. I'd like to thank Bill DeWitt and the Succession Committee. They did a tremendous job. This was a very thorough and, for the candidates, arduous process. I have to say, however, I enjoyed it. It was well-run and well-constructed. I'd also like to thank Tim Brosnan and Tom Werner, the two finalists. They were extremely highly qualified candidates, and I felt like it was a very noble competition between the three of us. The last thing I'd like to say, and this is by no means least, I'd like to thank Commissioner Selig. He has been a friend and mentor to me the entire 25 years that I've been in the game. There is no question that I would not be standing here today if it weren't for Bud. And I hope I will perform as the tenth commissioner in a way that will add to his great legacy. Thank you very much.
