If the world is nothing but a vast dream, what reason do we have to work and suffer? But because I do suffer, I was drunk all day and was slumped against the wall like trash. When I awoke, I looked to the garden, where a single bird was singing amidst the flowers. I asked myself what time is it now? The spring wind brought the flowing speech-song of the orioles. The birdsong evoked a sigh, an emotion that I wished to express, but, because the lure of wine was too great, I could only pour myself another cup. I sang, inviting the moon to rise, and when my song ended, I was once again drunk and insensate to the world.
