Caricatures past and present Have you seen Taylor Swift Shaking her booty in the video of her new song Shake it off . Fans think it's okay for Taylor to be shaking her bu*t because she's Caucasian but it shouldn't be like that, no matter what race you are shaking your bu*t for show is not appropriate. Sad thing is Caucasion people still think they are the dominant race they still think they are the best in all and that they can do whatever they want because their SKIN COLOR! In slavery time many caricatures were made about African American people that still live today. .The mammy was one of those caricatures that was created . The mammy was the slave that took care of everyone and made slaves look like they were in a happy environment “ mammy caricatures image was made to show women were happy with slavery” ( pilgrim). Now a days mammy caricatures still exists .In movies like Madeas Family Reunion and Big Mamma they show mammys the same as they did before fat and unattractive . If the modern day mammys are being presented the same way they were being showed before people may begin to think that this caricature is really what African American mothers look and act like. The mammy caricature took care of the white folks kids but it seemed like mammys didn't take care of the picaninnys. The picaninnys were like the children nobody cared for. These children were barely taken care of "picaninnys were just like coons but they were children" (pilgrim) .Picanninys are still alive in movies and shows.In movies like the Help picanninys are shown the Caucasion children were all clean and taken care of and the African American children were all dirty and not taken care of .If Picanninys are still in movies people are going to believe that colored children have no parents to take care of them and watch what they are doing . The Picanninys are like the children of the Coons. The Coons were like the cla** Clown but instead they were the clowns of the plantation. The coon was the adult that "acted very child like" (pilgrim).In cartoons like Spongebob Squarepants the coon was Patrick . If cartoons like Spongebob and characters like bugz bunny keep popping up KIDS are going to think it's okay for adults to act like they have no sense .Others will just think that this is just comedy and it's a silly kid show but it's not, it's nickelodeon embracing these stereotypes . The coons and the uncle toms were two different caricatures they acted totally different and had different personalities . The Uncle Tom was the loyal slave . He was usually the hard worker of all slaves "uncle tom caricature potrays black men as faithful and hardworking " (pilgrim). These men were strong and caring . In shows like Everybody hates Chris the dad barely has time for his family because he's working two jobs . If shows like Everybody hates Chris keep airing fans and viewers are going to think that black men don't have time for their families because they're always working and are too busy for their family . Tv companies like MTV and B.E.T need to keep in consideration the shows they are airing . Imagine that there were a whole bunch of anaconda bootys and a whole bunch of crazy Latinos on Tv. Shows like George Lopez and Black-ish prove many stereotypes that have been made correct . Shows like this make viewers think that blacks and Latinos only know how to act when the are being controlled.
