KIPP:STAR - Caricatures: Full of Stereotypes lyrics

Have you watched anything racist so far? A black lady in a food commercial represented as a caricature Have you experienced unfair times because of your skin? This is all because of slavery and the past. All of the minstrel shows that caricatures existing are still going on in our modern media today. Mammy has many stereotypes. In the past, mammies were showed as happy slaves and crazy black women. Mammies were described as “ domestic workers “ that didn't have no s**uality (Harvey). Mammies are portrayed in many movies and shows today. In Big Momma's House, the lady is playing an overweight “ housewife “(ESC 08). Many people would see the mammy and think of many inaccurate things. The mammy is a caricature that is not supposed be made. Mammy is a caricature that is not supposed to be made. The pickaninny is represented in the media from the past and present and it affects black communities. It is portrayed by a crazy black man that loves to work as a slave. In both the past and present they are showed with many stereotypes. They are always “ shown eating watermelon and fried chicken “( Authentic History). There are many modern day media and movies. They are shown by blacks “ being attacked by dogs “( Kelsey). If the pickaninny is displayed in a bad way, it will destroy the community. The pickaninny stereotype will hurt blacks in our society because they will think this of themselves. Coons are displayed in the wrong way. There are too many stereotypes about coons. It is one of the most insulting characters portrayed in history. They say that coons are “ always drinking gin and love their masters “( Harvey). Coons are showed in many movies. In Star Wars 1, a character named Jar Jar “ wore raggedy clothes, he was a bumbling idiot” ( Authentic History). Many people think wrong to call blacks racoons and stereotypes. Coons are saying bad things about blacks and there are other blacks being made fun of. Uncle Tom was a black slave and was portrayed wrong. He was a happy servant to whites as they say. He was “ old, physically weak and was dependent on whites” (AH). There are many people that made fun of it and many people display him. Examples of modern day Uncle Tom are “ Don Lennon and Uncle Tom's cabin” (AH). They show everything wrong about him. These stereotypes makes many people believe in this caricature. Uncle Tom is a bad way to show blacks. The caricatures that existed in minstrel shows are still going on today. The shows still go on today. It is disturbing that people support these types of disrespectful things.
