John Counselman - From Puffin Up to PSM: A History of Paper Stunnas Music Chapter One lyrics

Orlando, Florida. Meadow Woods Middle School. Two 11 year old sixth graders have just met for the first time. They're just making small talk about Eminem's Recovery, which had just came out, but little did they know how monumental this first conversation would be. One of these young boys was me. The other was Isaah Santos, better known as Tha Clip. After we had met in Mr Hobby's cla**, Isaah and I quickly became friends. Shortly there after, our friendship had evolved into a brotherhood. I had always wanted to be a rapper, and his love for music finally gave me the motivation to actually do something. For a while we shopped around our demos to labels, but realizing that we were in Orlando and no one wanted to f** with us, we eventually decided we would do everything ourselves. We had the two of us, Pale Stunna and Paper Clip, as we were known back then. We also had DJ Spyda (there was no "r" back then). Me and Isaah split ownership (as we still do) and Michael was president. But we still needed a name. The original name we had was Puffin Up. This actually stuck for a while; Michael's contract even said Puffin Up. But Isaah brought up a good a** point, we were 11, and neither one of us had ever smoked. So the next name we switched to was Push To Start Records. Mind you, it was like 2010, when push to start cars were just coming out, so it was a symbol of wealth. But we quickly decided that name was just stupid as f**. So we ultimately decided on combining our rap names. Thus, Paper Stunnas Music was born. In the early days, I was putting out mixtape after mixtape of pure trash. That sh** is still up on the internet. But believe me when I tell you it's god awful.
