Laura Moreira - Creation and Archetype Essay lyrics

The Genesis and Greek creation stories are both similar and different in how they use literary archetypes. Both the Greek and Genesis creation stories utilize the villain archetype. “Cronus swallowed each of his children as they were born.” In the Greek myth I put Cronus as the villain in the story. A villain is someone who is a bad guy, a character whose evil actions or motives are important to the plot. That proves that Cronus is filling the role of “the villain.” As in the Genesis Story, the villain in this is the serpent. “The serpent told the Woman, “You won't die. God knows that the moment you eat from that tree, you'll see what's really going on. You'll be just like God, knowing everything, ranging all the way from good to evil.” This represents the villain because he knows how to trick eve into thinking she's better than god. He told her lies, so she can believe that she can eat the forbidden fruit from the tree –of –life. These examples show both stories using the villain archetype. The Greek and Genesis creation stories also contrast, with the former having father/son rivalry and the latter a garden archetype. As on the Greek myth I'm doing the father/son rivalry which means war or competition between the father and son. “Cronus grabbed his father and castrated him, with the stone sickle, throwing the severed genitals into the ocean. The fate of Uran*s is not clear. He died, withdrew from the earth, or exiled himself to Italy.” This line refers to that archetype because the son Cronus, k**ed his own father with the stone sickle. The fact that he died or got thrown himself to Italy makes it seem they don't get along. It makes it seem that the rivalry really bad between the two. In the Genesis story is whole different perspective, The latter a garden archetype symbolizes love and fertility. “Then God planted a garden in Eden, in the east. He put the Man he had just made in it. God made all kinds of trees grow from the ground, trees beautiful to look at and good to eat. The Tree-of-Life was in the middle of the garden, also the Tree-of-Knowledge-of-Good-and-Evil.” The Garden of Eden in the genesis story is the perfect fit for the latter of garden archetype, because it defines the creation god did. God made all tress from the ground, and also the tree of knowledge. When he created everything with love. These both Greek and genesis shows the difference of the both creation stories.
