KIPP:STAR - Caricatures Then and Now lyrics

Imagine if people now a days did not have any culture. We'd all be the same way. No one would make fun of anyone because we all acted the same, and talked the same. Doesn't that sound BORING!!!! If we all stopped for one minute and not think about being racist we could see that everybody is unique because they have different cultures and styles. Not everyone is the same and people have to learn how to deal with that or we can never just be friends and live a GOOD LIFE!!! The mammy were potraited as domestic workers. They were only seen as slaves who were hard workers and nothing else. The text states, “The mammy caricature implied that black women were only fit to be domestic workers.” The enslaved africans were continuing to be captured so they can do other peoples work. The article states , “The mammy did not fade away with the abolition of slavery and the end of the civil war.” Slaves were continuing to be captured by the whites and forced to work for the whites because they were as seen as humans. The mammy were hard workers that were determined but other blacks were consumed to be lazy. Coons were potrayed as lazy workers. They would slack and whites saw them as lazy. One piece of textual evidence, is “Slave owner's complained about the laziness of their worker's. Slaves/Coons were seen as dumb because they were thought to be dimwits.” Another piece of evidence, is “Coons way stepin, fetchit, the slow talking, slow walking, self demeaning nitwits.” This means slaves were useless in the eyes of white plantation owners. Coons were seen as lazy slaves who were worth nothing but they did good end that's why slavery was known as evil. Pickaninny was to show slavery was wrong and didn't belong. Pickaninny was to show the evil of slavery. The articles states, “Topsy was created to show the evil of slavery. Pickaninny's appearances would Also be seen as evil. The article states, “She as one of the blackest of her round shining eyes glittering as gla** beads.” Pickaninny's were made to look evil because they were black. Pickaninny was the course of which people saw slavery as evil but over time a famous character took over to do something about it. Uncle Tom was created to make sure the U.S. delivered their promise. The article states, “They had created Uncle Tom over time to make sure the U.S. delivered their promise of freedom and equality.” It also made Uncle Tom look good and not lazy black people who did not do anything. “The tom is potrayed as dependable workers, eager to serve.” Blacks would be seen as hard workers who make sure a promise is delivered to help others (blacks). Thus, a lot of actions, and words were said during slavery to make blacks look bad but over time we gained some respect and little equalism. In conclusion, during slavery blacks were critized as lazy, or ugly, or jezebels who tried to get with white men, and they were also said to be animals. Overtime blacks
