Geo Friend-Lee - Lesson Learned from Serena Williams 22 Grand Slams: Kick down doors and shatter gla** ceilings lyrics

Too often we fall victim to the belief that we are just products of our environment, So when we grow up around nothing but crime, violence, And hate, In our face, everyday, It causes us to lose faith, Many of us don't even think that we can make it out and be great, Because within our 12 block radius, We can only see broken homes and foster homes, Evictions and addictions, We don't see teachers, scientists, astronauts, and technicians, And on the T.V screens and in the magazines, they rarely fit our description, This is why Serena Williams, Winning her 22nd Grand slam at Wimbledon, And becoming the greatest to ever play tennis, Is so significant, She is a black girl from the streets of Compton, Who fell in love with a sport, Where the people before her, Didn't look like her, dress like her, and often times didn't even accept her, She dealt with murder, cla**ism, racism, s**ism, Yet, with hard work and her family's love and support, She was able to become the most dominant player to ever step foot on a tennis court, So here is the Lesson, No matter where you grow up, You can reach success in any profession, Just work hard and never give up, Build a positive support system and Find your motivation, Push through the stereotypes and limitations, Kick down doors and shatter gla** ceilings, And just like Serena Williams, You too will make a tremendous difference, In the world, By inspiring both boys and girls, To be great.
