As I emerge The doctor hands me my first monocle I write book 8 And play with quantum particles Only to contemplate the great question If there's a God What is his complexion? Does he use L'oreal or Maybelline “Common let me see your holy sheen!” I leave the hospital that day in great reflection But as I walk down the frigid street I'm met with new directions “Here take this!” A crowd of cheetahs insist My jaw drops I had no idea cheetahs could talk They poke me and knew I wouldn't move So they stuff me in the furry spandex suit Looking down I see that I'm golden brown They cheer “Elkman!” And make me prance through the mystical town We near a rickety wooden pier I hear “Elkman!” growing louder As whiffs of charred chicken molest my nose I wonder what the hell is out there Arriving at the sight of delorean chicken coops I'm just in time for a speech “Are species is about to commit a prehistoric breach!” Everything turns bluish white POOF they're gone Wait...POOF they're back My head spins like a reversed record track The s**y beasts stepping out of those machines are more suave than Marty McFly T-rex's climb out struggling to grab champagne and cheers to their heist Then like fireworks I see rainbows shooting through the clouds Dragons fly overhead And chipmunks float towards the ground They gracefully sway wearing berets in fragile little bubbles Making a hexagon type formation And carrying a ukulele precisely towards my direction “Play! Play! Play!” The crowd chants I smile And grab it as they start to dance For every step I play a different note Like a musical Every movement spoke We were all at peace So ravished by the here and now My fear of being eaten by cheetahs seized I get lost as I close my eyes But when I open them all I see is different versions of me Each a reflection of what I perceive Like the end of a movie everything cuts and fades away I mouth words but can't speak I move my chest but can't breathe I know everything but can't think I cry and my voice echos on repeat “Where the hell am I?” --- This poem was inspired by the ideas of Kelsey Schumacher, Dustin Peverill, Carrie Pieper, Holly Weaver, Alyssa Naylor, Trevor Sells, Thomas Kaufmann, Samuel Blanford, and Kristopher Gurley.
