New York, NY, November 11, 2013 … The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) expressed disappointment that George W. Bush has decided to move ahead with plans to speak at a fundraising event in Texas for an evangelical group that aims to convert Jews to Christianity. The former president is scheduled to speak on November 14 at a fundraiser for the Messianic Jewish Bible Institute, a Texas-based group that attempts to convince Jews to convert to Christianity by promoting the false and offensive notion that Jews can accept Jesus as their messiah and still be Jewish. Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director, issued the following statement: We were disappointed to learn that former President George W. Bush has decided to move ahead with his plan to speak at a fundraising event for an evangelical proselytizing group whose stated goal is to convert Jews to Christianity. President Bush is a friend who has an abiding love and respect for Israel and the Jewish people. I know that he does not represent or embrace the purpose or the mission of this group, and therefore I wish he would not speak there.
