From the Album: The Sounding (1986)
Through broken halls, cracks in the tile
Well with the words that rang through these rooms
This falling house with boards on the shutters
Was built for the bride as a gift from the groom
In the Howling-wise
How the sighs resound
Through this heartless ground
Though this broken ground
This aging man still walks in the garden
His head in his hands that memory's marked
The life in this ground is gone but the man is still
Sowing these seeds from dawn until dark
In the Howling-wise
How the sighs resound
Through this heartless ground
Though this broken ground
Through broken ground the house has been falling
He reaps his rage from a coppice of cares
He harvests this home that harbors his trial
Threshing the thorns that his bitterness bears
In the Howling-wise
How the sighs resound
Through this heartless ground
Though this broken ground
