First up, congrats to the Seahawks. They played a great game, mainly in the second half but nonetheless, they played well. The rookies Tyler Lockett and Thomas Rawls played their hearts out, and my wishes go out to Marshawn for a healthy recovery for his small injury. That's all i'm going to say about Seattle, because my Bears need something. Anything.
Our offense... With the number 1 receiver and starting QB out, we really struggled on offense. And I mean really struggled. We gained just 146 total yards and averaged 3.2 yards per play. Jimmy Clausen, of course started, and did us no good, throwing for 63 yards the whole game going 9 for 17. That's just not good enough. We punted 10 times on our 10 possessions and I feel sorry for Pat O'Donnell who had to stretch that hamstring every time we got the ball.
I'm going to go right ahead and say it - we need Jay Cutler back! In the game against the Cardinals, Jay played tremendously, throwing for 120 yards and 1 touchdown. He completed all of his pa**es and looked like he was composed all up until the play where he threw the interception and got injured when trying to tackle the defensive player. No one benefits from Jimmy starting, honestly. We need to get Jay back, and we need to do it fast.
On a slightly happier note, our defense, despite losing confidence and energy towards the 4th quarter, really showed promise as they held Seattle to only 1 first down in the first quarter and 6 to end the first half. The leader of our defense today was no doubt, Pernell McPhee. He had 6 tackles and 2 sacks and abused Jimmy Graham's inefficiency and inconsistency of blocking to pressure Russell many times over. Antrel Rolle and Alan Ball in the secondary also showed up, combining for 12 tackles and multiple pa** deflections. The defense didn't let Seattle convert a third down until halfway through the third, when a flukey pa** was thrown to Doug Baldwin. This really showed that the defense, playing as hard as they could to start the game off, lost a lot of energy throughout the game and couldn't keep up with the pace of the game. One problem we had today, and have had since preseason is our special teams on kicks and punts. We have given up 3 return touchdowns in the regular season, which is the most for any team this year and they need to change that. The Bears can't keep letting up easy touchdowns which eventually lead to them putting their head down and playing worse.
The Bears are now 0-3, facing arguably 3 of the top 5 teams in the league right now, Packers week 1, Cardinals week 2 and Seahawks week 3. Hopefully (please please please please please please) we can get a win in week 4 when we play the Oakland Raiders who are 2-1 now. C'mon Bears.
