I don't think people realize just how bad the Jacksonville Jaguars are. I try to tell people and they act like this is the run-of-the-mill 3-13 bad football team. No, the Jacksonville Jaguars are historically terrible. These aren't like the ‘13 Tampa Bay Bucs. Fans want to compare these two winless teams, when there is simply no comparison (as of right now). I love stats and such, so I wanted to get a comprehensive list and delve into just how bad the Jacksonville Jaguars truly are…
Let's start with the fact that Jacksonville is 1-19 in their last 20 games.
Jacksonville has failed to cover 11 out of the last 13 spreads.
Jacksonville was a 26.5 point underdog vs. Denver. The Jags were the biggest underdogs the NFL has seen since 1976 (That 1976 spread was the defending champion Pittsburgh Steelers (-27) vs the expansion (eventually winless) Tampa Bay Buccaneers)
The Jags have not only gone 0-8 to start the season, but they have lost every single one of those games by double digits. Only once this season has Jacksonville lost a game by less than 2 touchdowns (A 19-9 loss at Oakland). Neither the winless 2008 Detroit Lions, nor the winless 1976 Buccaneers can claim this level of ineptitude halfway through the season.
Since 2010, the Jacksonville Jaguars have only been favored in THREE GAMES!
Only twice this season has Jacksonville held a team under 28 points (gave up 19 to Oakland and 24 to San Diego)
Jacksonville has had 3 home games so far this year (not including their “home” game in London this past week). 3 home games, that's 12 quarters…In those home games, the Jags have scored a grand total of 11 points. They are literally scoring less than a point-per-quarter at home.
Minnesota has the worst Super Bowl odds currently posted by Las Vegas bookmakers. Those odds are a ma**ive 750/1. If you bet $100 and the Vikings somehow won the Super Bowl $75,000. We have seen how awful those Vikings are but Vegas still leaves open the possibility of some miracle happening. Vegas doesn't even have Jacksonville on the board. Linesmakers have basically said, “while it's not mathematically impossible, there is no way in hell you could possibly win this. You guys have literally no shot. Go home.”
The NFL record for worst point differential in history is -287 by the 1976 Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Keep in mind that was a 14 game season so that's an average margin of defeat of 20.5. Over 16 games, that would have been a point differential of -328. The Jags have an average margin of defeat of 22.25 points per game. They are on pace for a point differential of -356 which would shatter the NFL record (even taking into account the # of games). The Jags current point differential of -178 is obviously the worst in the league. The 2nd worst is that of the Giants at -82. The Jags have the worst PD by a margin of 96 POINTS!!!
The Jaguars ranks dead last in the following categories: total offense, scoring offense, rush defense (by 30 yards!), red zone offense and scoring defense….They are also 31st in rush offense, 28th in total defense.
There are 32 teams in the NFL. According to ESPN's QBR stat (which is a modified QB Rating statistic), Quarterback Chad Henne ranks 33rd. The average QBR would be 50…his QBR is 26.5. With weapons like Justin Blackmon, Maurice Jones-Drew, and Cecil Shorts, that kind of number is pretty sad.
That stat wasn't bad enough for ya? Okay, wanna take a guess at who is dead last in QBR? Yep, it's Blaine Gabbert. In a league full of Thaddeus Lewis', Brandon Weeden's and Josh Freeman's, Blaine Gabbert is having by far the worst season in the league as far as QBs go. While he has only started 3 games so far this season, he has thrown enough pa**es to qualify for these type of statistics. QBR is something that has been retroactively applied to every QB's season since 2006. Blaine Gabbert's QBR of 1.8 is the worst rating ever applied using this standard of measure. Some of the guys who weren't able to match Gabbert's level of ineptitude according to the statistic: Andrew Walter, Bruce Gradkowski, J.P. Losman, Charlie Frye, Joey Harrington, Kellen Clemens, Josh McCown, Trent Edwards, Brodie Croyle, Cleo Lemon, Kyle Boller, Tarvaris Jackson, J.T. O'Sullivan, Gus Frerotte, Tyler Thigpen, Dan Orlovsky, Jimmy Clausen, etc, ETC. (Obviously, this stat isn't perfect, but anyone can see that Blaine Gabbert is an atrocious QB).
Conclusion
I'm not usually the guy who foresees a team going winless halfway thru the season. When people talk about [Insert Team Here] going 0-16, I'm always the dude who says, “Nah, they will be able to find a win somewhere on the schedule. They're NFL players, they will find a way to get at least one measly win.” Take this year's Bucs, for example. They are awful. But they only lost by 1 to the Jets, by 2 to the Saints, and by 3 to Arizona. The Bucs will get at least one win, hard for me to see them losing every game. But the Jaguars are so historically bad, that I don't see them winning at all this year. The Jacksonville Jaguars might be the worst team I've ever seen. At least the ‘08 Lions kept it close a couple of times (plus they had Megatron). If the '08 Lions played these Jags, I think the Lions would win because the Jaguars simply cannot get the ball into the end zone and the Jags D is Swiss Cheese. Maybe they will finish the season 3-13 and prove me wrong…I just don't see it.
tl;dr The Jacksonville Jaguars are All-Time Awful.
