Racist people back then during slavery started things called minstrel shows. Well guess what it still happens.This black minstrel shows stereotypes still happen today in media.
The mammy caricature was made to look like that black women were happy to be slaves while doing household work for white folks and are always wearing a scarf around your head.
It made black women look helpless without slavery. The white folks made blacks look” contended even happy as slaves”(pilgrim). The mammy caricature are usually shown in movies. In the movie the help when the black maid was fired she did not want to leave. Whites do things like this because they want people to follow their every command.The mammy was a very hard working caricature while other character were not.
The coon caricature was showed to be a very lazy person,the zip coon;a person trying to fit in with the wealthy cla**. The coon and zip coon was thought to be a buffoon. Whites portrayed the coon” as lazy easily idle,matriculated buffoon”(pilgrim). The coon especially the zip coon was particularly in the TV shows. This particularly show called the prince of bel-air the character Carleton acted like the zip coon by trying to fit in with the wealthy cla**. It showing that blacks were always trying to be something they are not. The coon was a lazy caricature while other caricature were really hard working.
Uncle tom was like a companion for the mammy caricature who both enjoyed being slaves. Uncle tom had a lack of s**uality. Whites made uncle tom's perceptive of “toms lack of s**uality was not created to hide a lie or white s**ual explanation of blacks”(pilgrim). Uncle tom today iin media are mostly showed in movies. The butler was a movie about black butlers who were happy to help their white owners. this made black men look like they like being a slave or following other people's orders. Uncle tom had a lack of s**uality while other caricature's had to keep control of their s**ual thoughts.
Pickaninny are known as black boys/teens who always have s**ual thoughts. Pickaninny are known for always having s**ual thoughts about girls. Whites make” black boys known for always s**ual thoughts about girl''(pilgrim). Pickaninny are often showed in hip-pop music videos. Hip-pop rappers are always talking about s**ual thoughts of girls or women. This makes blacks look like they are always have s**ual thoughts. The pickaninny known as a s**ual person.
Imagine if these racists things continue to happen then slavery will happen again. Our kids of that generation. Will think that acting like those stereotypes will be okay. Blacks will also be put back as non- humans again. All our hard work to gain freedom and rights will be thrown away.
