Walking down the road to Jerusalem
Time had come to sacrifice once again
My two small sons walked beside me on the way
And the reason that they came was to watch the lamb
'Daddy, Daddy, what will we see here today?
There's so much that we don't understand...'
Then I told them about Moses, Father Abraham
Then I said dear children, watch the lamb
There will be so many in Jerusalem today
We must be sure that lamb doesn't run away
Then I told them about Moses, Father Abraham
Then I said dear children, watch the Lamb
When we reached the city
I knew something must be wrong
There were no joyful worshippers,
There were no happy worship songs
So I stood there with my children
Amongst the sound of angry men
Then I heard the crowds cry out
"Crucify Him!"
We tried to leave the city, but we couldn't get away
We were forced to play in a drama
A part we never wanted to play
Because why upon this day were those men condemned to die
Why were we standing there when soon they would pa** by
I looked and I said "My God children, even now they come."
The first man cried for mercy, but the crowds they gave him none
The second man was violent, he was arrogant, he was loud
I can still hear his angry voice screaming at the crowd
Then someone said, "Hey, there's Jesus!"
I could scarce believe my eyes
A man so badly beaten that he barely looked alive
The blood flowed from His body
From the thorns upon His brow
It spilled down on the cross and poured out on the ground
I watched Him as he stumbled, I watched Him as He fell
They laid a cross on His back and the crowds began to yell
I'd never known such agony, never known such loss
Till a Roman soldier grabbed my arm and he said
"Hey you. You! Carry His cross!"
I tried to resist him, but his hand reached for his sword
So I knelt and I took the cross of my Lord
They laid it on my shoulder and I started down the street
And the blood that He'd been shedding trickled down my cheek
Then we reached Golgotha
They drove nails in His feet and His hands
And even there on a cross He said, "Father, forgive them."
I'd never known such love in any other eyes
"Into thy hands I commit my spirit."
He prayed and He died.
I stood there for what seemed like years - I lost all track of time
Till I felt these tiny hands reaching out to mine
My children stood there weeping when I heard the oldest say
"Daddy, please forgive us. That little lamb... it ran away."
"Daddy, daddy, what have we seen here today?
There's so much we can't understand."
So I took my children in my arms
And I turned them toward the cross
And I said, "Dear children. There's the Lamb."
