You said after the game in midweek that you wanted to speak with your players before you reflected on it properly with us. Having had a chance to do that now, how do you reflect on the game?
I reflect with the players, not with you. I had a meeting with the players. I'm working for the future. I don't have to share with you."
Did they react to what you guys spoke about? Is their positivity here after that meeting?
Everybody spoke. Not everybody, one by one, but lots of people were speaking. We were speaking and discussing and were very interactive. It was good but I don't want to discuss details with you.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic said that felt like their were 11 babies around him...
...I keep saying to you and to many of you that I don't comment on what the others say because I have my own opinion about things and I don't need to know what others think
The rest of the question was how you feel your players handled themselves at that time
If you want to speak about the Champions League you have to go to Wenger or Pellegrino because they're in the Champions League. They are representing england in the Champions League. They have one match to play and to win and to go to the quarter finals. I hope that, I wish that and if you want to speak about Champions League you have to speak with them.
We are not in the Champions League. We are out of the Champions League. We played 8 matches, we lost zero, but we were not good enough. We didn't make the result we needed to go through to the quarter-finals so we are out of the Champions League. To speak now in the Champions League, me my players and our people here is to speak about the Champions league next season.
We need to finish top four. If we want to be head of the group with the new criterias next season. We need to be champions because only the champions is head of the group next season, doesn't have a relation to the coefficients so we cannot be protected by the 16 points we did for England in this campaign. We did 16 points but this 16 points are important for England but not important for us because to be head of group we need to be champions and this is our foucs we have 11 matches to play in the Premier League. We want to be champions to win the Premier League but also to back in the Champtions league in a postion were we can be head of group to speak about Champtions League now I think you should go to Arsenal or to Man City because they are the ones.
In terms of your players conduct in the Premier League moving forward - in that competition only. If they surround the referees after incidents...
...If my players surround the referee we are charged and have to pay a fine, the players pay the fine. We have in this moment I think eight or nine months of competition. We were charged once and we pay for that. It's as simple as that.
Should it be noted that it's not just Chelsea that do this and it happens throughout the game? Would that be fair?
Go to the Premier League and see how many teams were charged and how many times. The only thing i can say is Chelsea were charged once.
You said after the game that your players cound't handle mentally some of the pressure. Is your responsibility then to teach them and train them to cope with that pressure?
It's always my responsibility. It's always my responsibility.
The people that went out of the Champions League on Wednesday is the same people who are top of the Premier league since day 1, is the same people that won the Capital One Cup, is the same people that is going to win the Premier League.
We are exactly the same people.
How do you insure that the campaign doesn't suffer as a result of what happend in midweek? You've dealt with this in the past what's the best way to deal with it?
Why are you so pessimistic in life? It's more difficult to succeed. You have to be optimistic. You know? Maybe you are a guy with great potential and you don't move on because you are so pessimistic. Be optimistic. Be optimistic. Belive in youself, be positive. We want to win againest Southampton we have 11 matches to play we have an advantage of five points we have one match in hand. We cannot promise that we win every game we cannont even promise we will win the Premier League but we are optimistic. You look very pessimistic. I think you have to enjoy life in a differant way.
I feel pretty optimistic
Ok, so move on man.
Are you working particularly on how you defend from headers? You have conceded 5 headed goals since the end of Janurary. Is that particularly on the engender here to work on improving that?
I know, I know, in the last four matches we have two clean sheets and we concede three goals and the three goals we concede were in individual headers in corners. One against Burnley and two against Paris Saint-Germain. We know that but obviously we work.
In the last game against Southampton their was a penalty appeal for Cesc Fabregas who was booked for it. You talked afterwards of it being a scandal and a campaign againest your players. You got fined for that so i don't want you to get in trouble for that but moving forward has anything changed since that game on how your players are treated in terms of appealing for things?
You know our story in the Premier League from specialy that moment you know what happend in that game and in some other games but we move on, the referee moves on. The referee is a good one. He was the referee of the Capital One Cup final and did his job without any critics from both teams. They move on, we move on.
Jose you talked there about some of your players not coping with the pressure. Did that surprise you?
I repeat, I don't want to go back. I want to go forward.
I think they will cope with the pressure of playing against Southampton.
Going forward, is it a concern then that when you do come to the key games at the end of the season - the title run in. That some of the players...
...Well, we are having key games since the beginning of the season.
But when it comes to the actual crunch to win the title
I think it's more difficult to start the season with the same points as everybody than to have an advantage. We start the season with the same points as Man City. We have five points more. So more pressure in the beginning. We start the season with the same points as Arsenal. We now have 9 points more than Arsenal. So I think in this moment it is easier.
So you don't think it's a problem then mentally in the big games of the Champions League knockout matches, you don't think that's a problem?
We failed in a knockout game. We failed in one knockout game.
We didn't fail in knockout against Liverpool. We failed against Bradford. We didn't fail against Bolton and Shrewsbury. We failed in the last game but the reality is that we don't lose a game since the Bradford game. We lost two matches in the Premier League all season. Since the 1st January, we only lost the game against Bradford. In the Champtions League maybe it's a unique case to be out of Champtions League without one single defeat.
I'm not like you and people in your area. Your nature is that you go with the wind. I'm not like that with my players. I trust my players when they win and when they lose. I cannot be the wind. So i support my players, I am with my players. We lose together and we win together. And I repeat, I wish Man City and Arsenal do better than us. I wish England goes to the quarter final with both teams or atleast with one of them.
The only thing we could do for English football is to get 16 points for the coefficients, and we coudn't do more than that. Now what we can do for ourselfs is to win the Premier League. We have 11 matches to play until the end of the season. All of them in the same comeption. Our situation is good, it's better than everybody else. Everyone would like to be in our position. Yesterday i closed with the players the chapter on the Champions League, and the only thing we want to speak about Champtons League this season is that if we are champions, next season we have top seed.
Just one more question about your players surrounding the referees. It's not something you encourage is it?
The world is a bit strange, maybe because of diets and maybe because of the quality of the products we are eating, but I think memories are getting shorter.
Because when Jamie Carragher and Graeme Souness are talking about it, they are having a problem for sure.
When the game finshed, I was in the tunnel and one by one not just the players but the coaches and everybody from Paris Saint-Germain I shook their hands and told them good luck for the future. This was the way behave after the defeat. And that's the example the players get after a defeat. I went to my dressing room, I put everybody together not just the players and because i am normally very calm and I think we deserve to go home and reflect and think, and after that yes speak without any kind of doubt or emotion. This is what we did and because i'm not like him, and i'm very optimistic. We also spoke in that monent about our future, and our future is try to win the Premier League and if we win the Premier League then a season with the Premier League and Capital One Cup is a brilliant season.
This is the way I am, and this is the way i work. I'm not like people want me to be. I'm not like people sometimes like to describe me. I am like that, but really Jamie stopped playing two years ago and in that time he forgot what he did on the pitch.
Mr. Souness also forgot but he stopped playing a long time ago, and he's forgot a couple of years after he left Benfica, I coached and I know a lot about him, I know so much about him. But obviously I am a certain kind of education not just in football but specially in life, and I prefer to laugh. And I prefer to say that the envy is the biggest tribute that the shadows do to the man.
Any further injuries?
No, look, my doctor told me after the game maybe tomorrow we have a few injuries. Why? because we lost. I told the doctor I don't believe. Zero injuries. Everyone wants to play.
They are not like some journalists who write bullsh** and then don't come to the next press conference. My players don't do that.
One of the thing you said after the game was that Chelsea can never be loved, but can be respected. Does it matter to you about Chelsea being loved or is winning all that counts?
Chelsea's top of the league since day 1. Chelsea's not playing now you could see in the last game at the same level we were playing for many months, but for many months we played better than anyone in this country and that is why I say you are like the wind. You go with the wind.
We cannot play fantastic all season. I do not know one team that plays fantastic all season, and we had our lowest point in terms of performance in a monment where we couldn't have, so we lost the game, we are out of the competition
