Watching the restless surf grind in
and frothing, grumble-rumble out.
Philosophy and life is all confusing,
roiled in this miss-paired convolution.
He stands looking west, attempting to wrest
stability from all of life's confusion.
Restless, surging waters wash the sands
of wisdom from beneath his feet,
Life's basic truths s**ed into a void
where once-solid contact gave brief security.
Beware! Ma**ive, problematic knots
of lumbering logs roll and tumble,
Crushing small, insignificant life
into replenishing grit for new beaches.
Beneath the great crushing weight
of beach-life's behemoths
Myriad, countless, small lives
frantically scurry and scamper,
Seeking to find their very own way,
meaning and worth within chaos.
Shrieking seagulls scream strident ideals
over laboring, burrowing ma**es.
Blown by on fitful, transient winds,
raucous, howling banshees for change.
While scurrying beach birds flit and pick
over the sand's gifts of their sustenance.
From beneath the sand's transient security
clams squirt new ideas and questions.
And just as quickly rebury sandy heads
to safely seek new thoughts and jests.
The crabs complain and scurry away
begrudging philosophes their sandy bunkers
Hiding in their shells of tenuous tenure
using stones and cobbles for shelter,
They sidle and flee strident gull-hunters
only to be crushed by rumbling logs of change!
Wind and waves continue their conversation
mixing and tossing sea-life's squanderings.
Logs and sand, dead crabs and clams
are all tossed to a scavenger's salad!
And facing west, still upon his quest,
his podium a strong promontory
Built on solid logic thrusting proudly
into the sea's tumultuous pounding
His version of life's stability displayed
(never noticing the gradual erosion)
This is The Way! I've had my say!
(flaking away all that he stands on.)
And the waves wash all away in timeless display
of nature's unhurried response to his vanity.
