SCORE In today's age we all have a fictional hero we look too. The Main reason for that is the story behind the hero. Tragic past, savior from a distant planet or something; we all enjoy hearing about their story. Their stories are relatable in some way, we can all see ourselves in those heroes and we end up rooting for them. Luke Skywalker from “Star Wars” is no different from those heroes. In fact he follows the same steps as others. “The Epic Hero Monomyth” is a base foundation for all hero stories. Status Quo (Beginning) to Resolution (heroes ending) all hero stories follow through these steps. The beginning of Luke's Monomyth starts with him being a normal teenager, status quo. His call to adventure was when Leia asked for help. His a**istance was Ben helping him with “The Force”. Departure was him leaving his planet to go save Leia. Every hero goes through trials and so does Luke. Like it was stated before, all of these steps that Luke takes, other heroes also take. An example of another hero that uses the monomyth is “Finding Nemo” Marlin. Marlin is the protagonist of the movie along with two other characters in the film. His status quo is a normal day with him taking his son, Nemo, to school. The call to adventure is when Nemo swims too far out of the group and is taken by some divers. Marlin now has to go and save his son from the divers which would be his departure. His a**istance comes from another main character Dory. Throughout the film Dory isn't much of a**istance but does stay along Marlin on his rescue mission.
Both characters come from different years; “Star Wars” came out in 1977 and “Finding Nemo” came out in 2003. During those years many things have changed and so has the audience members. I think that for the given time of year release both characters are great heroes in their own ways. Marlin isn't really seen as a hero, the film itself doesn't make Marlin out to be a hero just a worried father looking out for his kid. “Finding Nemo” doesn't really have anyone as a hero the film was just an adventure movie but looking closely at it Marlin is the hero. As for “Star Wars” Luke is really portaged as the hero.Throughout the film Luke is the hero who through character development became the hero we see at the end of the film. Although both characters are great examples of the Monomyth Luke is the better hero in some aspects. Luke is still regarded as the “hero” for todays children. After many years since the release of the film “Star Wars” its franchise is still popular along with the popularity of Luke for children. Marlin on the other hand does not since, he wasn't created for the “hero” title. All in all, both are great heros in their own ways that set good examples for all.
