After driving many hours
Reflective dots on the road looked like candies
Stuck in rows to wax paper
And i ate a few to find
They'd been dipped in somebody's acid
And i couldn't uncross the things my mind said it saw with my eyes
And i couldn't say a word though i feared for our lives
What a cruel trick to play, what a cruel thing to do to a stranger
Once the sun came up
And i saw what was what
The heavy horizon lay before me it flattened out my eyes
No pitch black cut by spotlight to show me blurry lines
In sunlight i marvelled
I could have taken both our lives
What a cruel trick to play, what a cruel thing to do to a stranger
What a cruel trick to play, what a cruel thing to do to a traveller
