My name is Horton Mason and I call the sea my home
I've touched the golden morning in the harbour town I've roamed
Now the winds of time are waiting for their dues outside my door
They know I've cheated d**h one time before
It was early Friday morning in the winter we set sail
With Freddie Thorn and Myron Lennox hard against the rails
With the fickle winds of January smooth against her bow
It seems that I can almost feel them now
But there's no one left on the Teazer now
Though her ragged sails trap the harbour gales
And there's only me who has lived to tell
Why her spirit haunts these waters at the close of day
We were proud upon the Teazer, of her name and of her grace
I was twenty years her captain and old Thorny was my mate
But Lennox was a family man who'd never sailed before
Five children and a wife he left ashore
Brown's Bank was the first place that our nets would touch the sea
And looking from the wheelhouse I saw Lennox smile at me
But then the winds broke loose, straight from hell they must have came
And I heard Lennox screaming out my name
Yeah there's no one left on the Teazer now
Though her ragged sails trap the harbour gales
And there's only me who has lived to tell
Why her spirit haunts these waters at the close of day
I felt just like a dead man as the first wave crossed her bow
And as the rigging started freezing I started wondering how
We would ever live to see again the morning harbour tide
And Lennox threw the dory over side
Well I rushed down from the wheelhouse as Lennox made his dive
But by the time he hit the wash the dory was capsized
With nothing left to cling to he met my tortured gaze
Then Lennox slowly slipped beneath the waves
Yeah there's no one left on the Teazer now
Though her ragged sails trap the harbour gales
And it's only me who has lived to tell
Why her spirit haunts these waters at the close of day
Well I stumbled to the port side where the other dory lay
And I found old Freddy Thorn there with the thing almost away
But then the ocean rang again with murder in her song
And I looked again and Freddy Thorn was gone
That's exactly how it happened and until my dying day
I'll never know why I was spared and the others swept away
I'll never know why I was spared and the others swept away
Now the Teazer's drifting empty with d**h beneath her keel
Drifting empty with d**h beneath her keel
And the souls of those who sailed her at the wheel
And the souls of those who sailed her at the wheel
'Cause there's no one left on the Teazer now
Though her ragged sails trap the harbour gales
And there's only me who has lived to tell
Why her spirit haunts these waters
Why her spirit haunts these waters
