EPIC HERO MONOMYTH By: Gary Raul Chow Heroes are often found in books never the less they inaugurate in the real world as well. Many individuals such as Luke, my mother, and many more show the role of an epic hero. Luke Skywalker fulfills the role of an epic hero, my mother also fulfills the role of a hero as well, and I will argue that my mother is the best choice for an epic hero between the two. Heroes are known to be as the “one who saves the day.” as we know from the story of star wars, Luke was born into a normal life living as an average agriculturist boy. Growing bored, Luke realized that it would be time for him to go out into the world and explore. Though He was familiar with the clone wars, he desperately wanted to know more concerning that his own dad was part of the combat. Obi-Wan Ken-obi had come to look for Luke and tell him that his dad was part of the clone wars but that he did not know who he was. Luke was on a mission to go and try to help princess Lea where she was. Luke was able to help Lea and her struggle. My mom was born into a very poor life. The education in the country was very bad. Her parents and parents were never able to send her off to school in the city. At the age of 12 my mother decided to go and move to the city to work so that she could help support her family. While she was in the city, she was able to raise enough money to support her family and go to school. When she was 17 she was able to get papers and come to America. She started low but then quickly was able to have her very own cleaning business. She raised enough money to bring her parents to the United States. She is an epic hero because even though she started from ground zero, she was able to quickly get up and move and to be the one to make sure that her family had a better life here in the United States.
My mother would be the best person for an epic hero since it shows the life of a person who has struggled but has been able to rise and keep fighting for the reward. Starting from a status quo and finishing in the resolution, life was very hard for my mother. She risked herself to go into the city and work knowing that she would be leaving her family. She fought to get the best out of life and things still didn't go as planned. Luke qualifies as an epic hero but my mother shows realistic issues that many of us could relate to. When my mother was 18 she decided that she would migrate towards the United States. The situation in El Salvador was getting worse every day. Luke had a very hard journey as well but the situations in his story aren't as real as those of my mom's journey. In conclusion, heroes are in every corner of the earth and you can find them if only you seek to them. This is why Luke expresses the role of an epic hero, my mother shows similar aspects, and my mother is the best option. Like the hero William Shakespeare says, “We know what we are, but know not what we may be.”
