Away, the sun and hopeful promise
The air rings truths of dreaming lies
Caged the bird who sings her songs
She weeps her tears of unknown fears
Which ambition surely defied
Wind and whisper through the bars
She feels the air of open skies
Fellows up above her fly
What crude tease, the blowing breeze!
The captive bars joke and deny
Away...
Away...
Away...
Away...
In the cage, the bird is left,
Whilst her fellows fly away
For the changing of the season
The wind now cold in winter bold
And once blue skies turn now gray
Away...
Away...
Away...
Perched and still she sits resigned,
As she had beat her wings to bone
And yelled a plea of help too long
She sits as slow the frigid blows
Choke the last of helpless moans
The heart that once determined raced
And sought the future of release
Takes its last of fateful beats
I know the bird's last dying words
Those the dreams of mine deceased
Away...
Away...
Away...
Away...
