I lie awake at night listening
for anything that moves.
The rain dribbles and
the AC roars and the blankets turn.
I a**ume the role as keeper
making sure everything is right.
The ceiling lights blink on and
I hear the rustling of papers in your room.
I let
fear
consume me.
I creep out of bed careful
not to make a stir.
The wood floor groans
despite my careful footing.
I watch to a**uage
my fear of the repeat.
Life is what I want
for you.
Hold on.
