[ELIDIOR]
I'm not in this profession because I chose to
Circumstances, something I had to
I'm not shouting on top of my voice because I like it
Job requirement, something I would benefit
They call me their equal but not their co-equal
Considered dirty and everything I say is nonsense
But they don't know how difficult this my job is,
Sleep late, wake up at dawn and tidy up my office
Many clients seek for my service yet treat me like nothing
It something really hurting but I'm made to be silent about it
Because boss says it's not good for customer service
But sometimes, I can't hold it
I talk back and its ten percent deduction from my daily wages
They are supposed to be customers but sometimes turn into enemies
Especially the ladies, because of their coins they want to be treated like queens
I know you are wondering what this my job is
My highest promotion is the stations manager
My boss, is the driver.
Im the mate, my English name- the conductor
I deal in paper and coins
Kasoa Aladjo konongo Ejisu Kofrom Ahodwo santasi santasi mamobi oyibi
Yes, tech tec tech circ circ circ… its all I do all day
People think I'm ignorant, but I know nature doesn't discriminate
We all breathe air
Whether good or bad, we all live here
They think I'm stupid
Because I pa** silly comments a lot
And it's called, something something typing
Stereo or mono? Either way it doesn't sound right
I become a little violent when fuel prices gain increment
Sometimes I get beaten, occupational hazard
I get insulted, occupational hazard
But when girls turn down my proposals, occupational curse
Making sure one cedi note is available to the police is my civic responsibility
Dashing loading boys, corporate responsibility
You paying fifty instead of sixty pesewas, charity
The way I smell bad, call it branding or self-fulfilling prophecy
But I'm not in this profession because I chose to
Circumstances, something I had to
I'm not shouting on top of my voice because I like it
Job requirement, something I would benefit
I was seen as a bad breed in school, nothing but trouble
Even though going to school was cool
I had trouble following the rules
So they said I was different
A little bit truant
At fifty-eight degrees Celsius, I refused to wear my flying tie so “I'm not decent”
I never understood why we were always looking for X but never asked Y even though they are neighbours in the alphabet.
It was suspension, later dismissal.
So what happened to “more room for improvement”?
Now here I am, not shouting on top of my voice beacause I like it
Job requirement, something I would benefit
Kasoa Aladjo konongo Ejisu Kofrom Ahodwo santasi santasi mamobi oyibi
circ circ circ tech tec tech … it's all I do all day
This is the story of most of us
To society we are just statistics
Number of school dropout seen as misfit
Whilst society failed to fit us in
School is like the potter
We are clays ready to be molded into different shape and forms
But it fails to understand that we are of different texture, composition and character
Now imagine the damage this is causing the system
Youth in prison, teenage pregnancy, prostitution, armed robbery
Illiteracy and crime rate on the increase
So what happened to school as a socialization tool?
Because throwing us out of school was not a final solution
But it further prolonged the inevitable repercussion on society
My experience made me write this poem within one minute
But is experience might make him put a gun to your head for your phone within one minute
Yet
How dare you still call us misfits?
When school saw dismissal as an option!
