There's a silence in the city
It hums through the noises on the streets
It's not like finding a lost melody
But I find myself walking to the beat
Of canvases blank with wisdom
Artists who know it's a hopeless cause
Like the dancer suspended in mid air
Breaking free of earthly laws
Like the child with a hunger
Not for knowledge or for love
Just a thought, wholly unconscious
"It would be a mistake to not wake up"
So I sit back and listen
To the Voice beneath the words
I see it in sincere expressions
Like Christ said "look at the birds"
And as we wander down this corridor
Growing darker with every turn
It's not about going farther
When we realize there's nothing to learn
And it's not about getting angry
Growing cold or acting tough
Still if we pause, we may miss the Music
"It would be a mistake to not wake up"
