As I stare into the eyes of a blind man
I slowly begin to see where I stand.
A poor man's dreams, yet a broken man's fate.
I was right on time, an hour early, but a whole day later.
I chose the beaten path, traveled by beaten men.
Being misunderstood by others, so I turn to you,
my friend.
I was chained to desire, locked inside this hell,
a sea of fire.
I've never claimed to be a wise man because truly I don't know.
I'm lost inside, but it never shows,
so I'm taking this beaten path as far as it goes.
I was once a deaf man who only played by ear.
Never held close the ones so near.
Well I'd give it all for one last chance,
then chance it all for your hand to dance.
But right now I only want to play.
What!
I have to go?
I couldn't be more sorry, for I'd love to stay.
However,
I have something weighing on my mind,
but the words they seem so hard to find.
God forbid they creep into sight, so let me say farewell tonight.
Because it couldn't happen
no, not tonight,
that maybe just for once
you could be here when I'm right.
