[Verse 1]
Arts, culture and science are non-existent
Concepts in this sh**ty city deserving only of pity
And all those who live here are second-cla** citizens
Or every person's a working-cla** citizen
This town, in decay from decades gone by
Under the hand of Thatcher the men they once died
There are empty shopping malls but the wind freeing
An Asda bag's almost the only life on Northumberland Street
Then on the broken bridges under skies of smog with an
Angel on the other side selling cheap loaves from Morrison's
The hen-night party goers throw up in the sight of a priest
And the vermin at the top take their slice of the feast
[Verse 2]
The council asked a man from the East's south
For funds, he just told them
“There's no hope for Apocalypse Town”
I can't afford the web or books
Now they've had to shut down all these
Libraries and youth clubs that had kept him out the streets
The economy's improving, so say the Tories
But what about unemployment with youth and in the North East
It's funny – we hated the church for how they viewed marriages
Now I'm running back to them for their food banks in these
Tough times, no heat this winter, I'm 24 and
Struggling to get my daughter fed, recently born
So for me and my family's home, life's gone to sh** now
But don't tell me that where I lives' Apocalypse Town
