The day you were born
I started laying the foundation
for a safe sturdy bridge
that would forever span
our great divide.
No matter what the weather
it will remain strong.
When a storm rages
the bridge will remain steadfast.
So you always have
a safe way home.
The bridge is constantly
reinforced with lots
of love and tender care.
It will always be solid.
As I stand on
my side of the bridge
looking across to you.
I see that over time
you've torn down
parts of the bridge.
It no longer spans
across our great divide
and is no longer solid.
No longer sure what
to do with a bridge
that leads no where.
Demolish it completely
and maybe start rebuilding it again.
Or leave it as it is
in hopes you'll
rebuild your side to bring you back home.
No matter what's done
whether right or wrong.
Tears falling and full of hurt
I have to keep moving forward
with or without you.
