As I approach the twilight of my days,
And contemplate the road the I have trod;
I wonder, through a memory fogged haze,
Did I fulfull the teachings of my God?"
Do I love my neighbor as myself,
Treat him kindly,
always with respect;
Do I place too much emphasis on self,
Resulting in indifference and neglect"
As a parent,
did my children learn from me?
How well did I teach them right from wrong;
I hope someday, when I'm gone,
they will see,
The rules laid down were meant to make them strong.
Have I used the talents that God gave me?
I use my voice to praise his name;
I hope I write my poems for all to see,
No matter what, he loves us all the same.
The day is done and I have earned my rest,
The battle's won, I'm laying down my sword;
I'm praying Lord, that I have done my best,
I'm going home to you, that's my reward!
