Stranger In Black
I walked on a country road
I started out my walk alone
But it wasn't long
Till I heard footsteps on the ground
I met a stranger dressed in black
He greeted me he tipped his hat
And he asked me for something back
I felt my stomach heave
I didn't know this man from steve
But he blocked the exit
So I could not leave
And I said, “sir, I don't mean to be curt or obscene
But you look an awful lot, like a stranger to me,”
And he said, “no, no I ain't
I'm no stranger to your ways
And you ain't getting past me
Until you pay.”
He said, “I met you once before, you were laying there on the floor
The breath had left your lungs, girl you shoulda been long done
Oh but you defied me, you stood back up, shaken but smiling
What a slap in my face, it was d**h that you disgraced
I tried again when you were on the road
I tipped that trailer towing slate and stone
But you hit your breaks and avoided that whole load
Oh you defied me, you stood back up, shaken but smiling
Little girl, your luck is running thin
And I said no, no I ain't
I'm no stranger to your ways
I'm gonna die with gray hair
From old age
I saw his face turn red
Hell knows no fury like a man named d**h
He turned to smoke on the road
But I knew I'd see him again
Oh it didn't take long
No it hit me quick
He knocked me flat I was so damn sick
I spent six months lying in bed
But I prayed to god to make me strong
My family helped me along
And once again
I proved that stranger wrong
And I said no, no I ain't
I'm no stranger to your ways
I'm gonna die with gray hair
Yeah, I'm gonna die with gray hair
From old age
