My opinion of eminem's top 5 songs from Infinit to Shady xv
N.5- The Way I Am
The Way I Am is the 2 single of the MMLP1, unlike the first single (The Real Slim Shady) here Eminem is angry
And there is nothing like angry Eminem, because here we can hear Eminem shooting all over the place, pounding at everybody
Not holding back
(well let's just say holding back isn't exactly his thing).
Most of his anger is direct to his fans but
It doesn't stop there, Eminem is taking shots at the media, censorship, his father, his record company and everyone that comes
To mind, and does all that with excellent rhyming:
"I sit back with this pack of Zig-Zags and this bag
Of this weed it gives me the sh** needed to be
The most meanest MC on this, on this Earth
And since birth I've been cursed with this curse to just curse
And just blurt this berserk and bizarre sh** that works
And it sells and it helps in itself to relieve
All this tension dispensing these sentences
Getting this stress that's been eating me recently off of this chest
And I rest again peacefully..."-
An absolute cla**ic
N.4- 'Till I Collapse
This song was track 18 on The Eminem Show.
Eminem is known for being a big 2pac fan, he sampled a few of his songs on diss tracks, mentioned him in a lot of his songs, and even produced
An after d**h album for him, and as a big 2pac fan since he was a kid he took a few characteristics from him, and I think that the
Main thing he took from him is pa**ion, somehing this song is full of, Eminem takes every peice of pa**ion he got and
Screams it on this amazing track, I mean how is the song starts?:
"Cause sometimes you just feel tired, feel weak
And when you feel weak, you feel like you wanna just give up
But you gotta search within you, and gotta find that inner strength
And just pull that sh** out of you
And get that motivation to not give up, and not be a quitter
No matter how bad you wanna just fall flat on your face, and collapse"
And Eminem definitely found a lot of strength for this song
This song is also very motivated something I appreciate in a song
In the song Eminem's saying he loves rap, that he will rap until d**h (will see...) but that he will stop if he gets less good (depend who you're asking), makes a list of the best rappers ever and put himself 9th (maybe if he liked this
Song as much as I do he would have put himself higher). and
Basically Em completely k**ed all the verses and especially the 3
Nate Dogg (R.I.P) completely k**ed the hook and both of them made a fantactic song
N.3- Sing For The Moment
The 4 single from The Eminem Show
Eminem talks about many thing, with the best lyrics he ever wrote (meaning, not lyricly)
If you listen tou can find some amazing lines in there:
"music is reflection of self We just explain it, and then we get our checks in the mail"
In this contact Eminem talk's about violence and guns in particular and protecting rap with a very true point: many
People say rap is shallow because it's just about violence and what's deep about that? so Em says that this is the rappers life
And because there life is all around guns, poverty, and danger that's what they're rapping about
But this line as well as the whole
Song is about the power of music, and that brings me to the best thing in the song: the rest of the 3 verse
The 3 veres shows best
The power of music, everytime I hear this song I'm picturing a kid who has problems, maybe his getting bullied, maybe abused at
Home, it doesn't matter, the point is that his life is tough, he always feels bad maybe even wants to k** himself, but than
He puts his favorite artist, (even though Eminem sings "put on a rap record" it doesn't matter which kind of music he puts)
And forgets all his problems just because he's listening to music.. and that shows how powerful music is
N.2- Lose Yourself
The theme song (along with 8 Mile) from the movie 8 Mile
I'm a big eminem fan and I like to say that between hundreds of good, great and just fantastic songs there are 2 masterpieces
2 songs one level above all the others 2 songs that will be remembered long after Eminem will be gone and not just by
His fans and not just by rap fans, this is one of them, because this song is a lyrical masterpiec, lyrically there is not
A song that can challenge it, and don't you dare saying "Rap God" because even though Rap God is fast and impressive it's not even
Close to the lyrical level that Lose Yourself presents: in Lose Yourself Eminem manages to rhyme not almost every line, but
Almost every word! just look:
"His palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy
There's vomit on his sweater already: mom's spaghetti
He's nervous, but on the surface he looks calm and ready
To drop bombs but he keeps on forgetting..."
And I don't know if any song in history can top that (wouldn't know untill i'll hear all of them and that's
Going to take a while...)
And that's not it because there is much more to this song than the lyrical level, here Eminem tell's us how hard it is to take care
Of a family with a minimum Wage, and trying to blow up and how hard it is when you alredy blew up to manag both his family
And fame and everithing with a perfect flow, and even if the first verse is about b rabbit, the rest of the song is about
Eminem. and as I said I like motivated songs, and this track is definitely one
N.1- Stan
The 3 single from the MMLP1
And we reached the second masterpiec, the best Eminem song ever, on this track Eminem tells us about an imaginary guy called
Stan who is obsessed with Eminem and k**s himself and his pregnant girlfrind when Eminem doesn't answer to his letters
This song is basically a more sophisticated "The Way I Am", another way of saying how hard it is to be famous, but a better way
Because it works better- because after you hear "The Way I Am" you feel like as long as you don't cross any insane lines
Like asking an autograph while he's in the toilet... you're fine, but after hearing "Stan" you don't want to come out as a
Big fan because no one wants to feel like an obsessed cazy fan, That after this song is called a Stan- that's how influential this
Song is in rap music
And maybe lyraclly it's not as good as "Lose Yourself" but it has something just as impressive
Here Eminem manages to make a song that is all in letters (and one tape), make it sound like a normal letter(lyraclly! not the meaning!)
Without using words and sentences that sounds off, like if I would have said the same things, I would have said it the same way Stan did
And still rhyme most lines, something he didn't do for example on part 2 of the song: "Bad Guy":
"And to think, I used to think you was the sh**, b**h
To think it was you at one time I worshipped, sh**
Think you can hurt people and just keep getting away with- it
Not this time, you better go and get the sewing kit, b**h
Finish this stitch so you can reap what you sew, nitwit
Thought some time would pa** and I'd forget it? Forget- it"
Here Eminem break down lines, and people just don't talk like that... that kind of disconnects you from the song, well in Stan you
Feel realy connected, and that brings me to the best thing in the song: the story
The story of Stan is just amazing
It catches you like a good book/movie you just can't stop paying attention, I must have heard this song a 100 times and I keep
Being interested every time, I keep listening to how obsessed Stan is, to how he feels like he is the only one in the world
That likes Eminem and Eminem should love him back, how he's slowly become angrier and how in the 3 verse he's just going completely insane
And I keep getting stressed a second before he jumps to the water
And alweys listening to an amazing 4 verse of Eminem writing back to Stan and makes it sound like we know what happend to Stan
Before he doe's
This song, is my Idea of a perfect song
