[Intro]
Dear grandpa
[Interlude]
I wanna just honor your support
Cuz the longer you're gone the more it hurts
I'm tryna provide to hold the fort down
Starting with how I word the verse
A lot of our talk is toward the earth now
Prominent darkness worm for sure
As long as I got the quarters earned
I promise that I'll record yours first and
[Chorus 1]
[Verse 1]
It all started when the call dropped in that Paul got sick
At the hospital, we were calm
And it just did not seem like a problem yet
So it dissolved a bit until he got surgery
And all it did was make things worse for him
A burst of these problems started occurring
It seemed like a returning theme, and it murdered me
Deep inside knowing here's the time he'd last be heard
Or seen, so we heard the ringtone blurt from the phone
And were urgently told that it would be good to meet
So we all just got in the car, went to the hospice
Where Paul sits, to learn that he couldn't speak
And he couldn't see, to the point of exhaustion
And the family was there bearing it together
And the bond was apparently repaired
Sharing even tears, praying it would get better
Without help, he was barely breathing air
So we held hands in the form of a circle
And began to formally worship the heavens
Of course, with the service of begging, praying
[Chorus 2]
[Verse 2]
My brother and I saw the family coming outside
We wanted to comfort the tribe
And then we offered anyone to come for a ride
Just to get something to buy
But in the end it was just him and me
Cuz all of the others declined, and I have this memory
Of driving the way back, speeding
And an officer tried to get us to stop
And pull up to the side of the road
Something we couldn't deny
And he told us "sit", until a bunch of tickets we're folded
No wondering why, then we get back and discover you died
Wandering by and hearing the stuttering cry of my father
As an utter reply to losing a one-of-a-kind
Definitely the saddest thing I've ever seen in my life
So I gotta say "rest in peace", I can mentally picture you
Resting in heaven's seat with the rest of the family
And I desperately hope at the moment I go
That you and the rest are next to me
Blessed to be home as our souls and
[Chorus 1]
[Interlude]
I wanna just honor your support
Cuz the longer you're gone the more it hurts
I'm tryna provide to hold the fort down
Starting with how I word the verse
A lot of our talk is toward the earth now
Prominent darkness worm for sure
As long as I got the quarters earned
I promise that I'll record yours first and
[Outro]
We'll never forget you, promise that you'll never forget us
