OPENING CREDITS CUT TO: Schindler Building, Ma**achusetts, America Hiroki Sawada sits on his desk, developing a computer program while listening to the news reporter on a television. Woman News Reporter (On the Television Screen): "Boy Wonder" Hiroki Sawada, at the tender age of ten, is a graduate student at the Ma**achusetts Institute of Technology. His development of the method of tracking a person's ancestors using skin and blood data, called the "DNA Search Program," was a recent amazing accomplishment. And Hiroki is now developing a mechanical brain, which grows five human years in a span of one year. This is being fully supported by the Tsar of the IT Industry, Schindler Company president, Thomas Schindler. Hiroki's parents divorced two years ago. Hiroki parted with his father and moved to America with his education-minded mother. When his mother died of an illness and Hiroki was left all by himself, Mr. Schindler became like his adopted father. CUT TO: Unknown Facility A man within an unknown surveillance room is watching Hiroki Sawada and his computer program, eating a donut with his left hand and holding a white cup on his right hand. A close-up of the same news reporter on a larger screen hung up underneath the ceiling. Two policemen are accompanying the man. Woman News Reporter (On the Television Screen): It is said that the mechanical brain, "Noah's Ark" will be the greatest invention in the history of humankind. And Hiroki is placed in tight security. The television screen transitions to Hiroki Sawada walking on private school grounds. Woman News Reporter (On the Television Screen): He's not allowed to play in the park like a normal child. Noah's Ark is a reference to Noah's Ark in the Old Testament. God created a big flood to purge corruption from the world, and only Noah, who had followed God's way, was allowed to create an ark that his family and a variety of animals could ride, so that they could escape the big flood. CUT TO: Schindler Building Hiroki Sawada turns off the television screen. He reacts in excitement after finishing typing down his program, but looks behind in astonishment, as he discovers a surveillance camera. The program concludes with the phrase: "Noah's Ark." Shortly after thinking awhile, he presses the "Enter" key in determination. Three computer screens brighten up, and simultaneously, a red laser is shot through complicated wire cables. A red alarm blares within the surveillance room. The man immediately contacts his "boss": Thomas Schindler. CUT TO: Unknown Facility Man Within the Unknown Facility: Boss, there's something strange. The phone line, it looks like the program data! Schindler Company president, Thomas Schindler, wearing bed clothes arrives, stepping down an elevator with a security guard. Thomas Schindler looks up, thinking. Thomas Schindler (Thinking): What's Hiroki doing? Thomas Schindler rides within the elevator to meet Hiroki. Hiroki, after typing "Noah's Ark Sails Out," sits back down in relaxation. CUT TO: Schindler Building Hiroki Sawada: Good-bye, my friend. The door to Hiroki's room is locked with a chair underneath the knob. On the outside, Thomas Schindler knocks on Hiroki's room door. CUT TO: Outside of Hiroki's Room Thomas Schindler: Open up, Hiroki. What are you doing? Hiroki Sawada, walks up to the balcony. Schindler's guard attempts to break through the door. Hiroki Sawada, with a vague smile, looks over the evening sky. CUT TO: Balcony of the Schindler Building. Hiroki Sawada: I wonder if I can fly, just like Noah's Ark... Thomas Schindler and his guard finally breaks through Hiroki Sawada's room. Thomas Schindler: Hiroki! Where are you! Thomas Schindler runs towards the balcony. He spots Hiroki's shoes, and continues to search for Hiroki. Thomas Schindler: Hiroki! Schindler's guard notices Hiroki's computers have turned back on. Thomas Schindler's Guard: Boss! Schindler rushes back to Hiroki's computer room. Thomas Schindler's Guard: Look at that! An animation of Noah's Ark enduring a ma**ive flood suddenly appears on Hiroki's computers' screens. An additional message auto-appears, along with "Noah's Ark Sailed Out": "Good-bye HIROKI". Schindler gasps in astonishment. OPENING CREDITS + Introduction Kudou Shinichi (Narrating): I'm a high school detective, Kudou Shinichi. While visiting an amusement park with my childhood friend and cla**mate, Ran Mouri, I witnessed a man in black in the midst of a suspicious transaction. While caught up in watching a deal, I failed to notice his partner sneaking up behind me. That man forced me to swallow potion, and when I came to... Edogawa Conan (Narrating): My body had shrunk! If those guys had found out that Kudou Shinichi was still alive, they'd come after me again and put those around me at risk. At Professor Agasa's suggestion, I decided to conceal my true identity. When Ran asked for my name, in that instant, I became "Edogawa Conan." In order to obtain information on those guys, I went to live with Ran, whose father is a private detective. CUT TO: Outside of Professor Agasa's House Professor Agasa: Ready, everyone? Ayumi, Mitshuhiko, and Genta: Yes! Edogawa Conan (Narrating): Among these people, those who know my true identity are... other than the professor, there is only Haibara Ai. She was originally a partner to those men in black, but when she fled the organization, she took the same drug I was given, and her body shrank. Always exuberant in playing their practical jokes, these are my childlike parents. My father is a world-famous mystery novelist. Whenever you mention Kudou Yusaku's Night Baron series, no one who'd call themselves a mystery fan wouldn't know it. My mother, Kudou Yukiko, when she retired at 20-years-old to get married, was a legendary idol and actress. Nowadays, she's just your average nagging old woman. For the time being, I'm meant to be the son of one of their distant relatives. I haven't seen their faces in a while, though. Wonder how my mom and dad are doing? Professor Agasa: As for me, I'm fine! Edogawa Conan (Narrating): Despite shrinking, my mind reminds the same. The unbeaten great detective, there is only one truth! End of Opening Credits CUT TO: Beika City Hall, Beika City, Tokyo, Two Years Later Woman Announcer of TMS: Here at Beika City Hall, the game-makers of Japan have gathered for the spectacular premiere of the Schindler Company's jointly-developed sensory stimulation game. A grey car arrives on the red carpet, right outside Beika City Hall. Woman Announcer of TMS: Ah, just now, President Schindler of the Schindler Company has arrived. President Schindler steps towards Beika City Hall. A throng of joyous cameramen take pictures of Schindler. Woman Announcer of TMS: Now then, according to the material give to us by the media, the game nicknamed "Cocoon" is played by entering capsules that resemble cocoons. Under a state of hypothesis, the players interact within the game through speech recognition systems, and play in a virtual reality world. This is a game that utilizes the latest in technology. In this game, there are in face five different stages that players are free to explore. What sort of surreal worlds are available will be revealed to the children playing the game for the first time today, all as part of today's sneak preview demonstration. The fifty boys and girls selected from high school age and younger will become Japan's first testers for Cocoon. Kogoro Mouri: Geez.. isn't this overdoing it for a video game demonstration? Conan: To get in this demonstration, industry spies would be doing all sorts of underhanded things. Mitsuhiko: With the advent of Cocoon, the layout of the game industry will be changed in just one shot. Genta: Oi, what are those? Mitsuhiko: Hm, if I'm right, those must be the Cocoons! Genta: I want to play Cocoon too! Mitsuhiko: It's no use. Even though we were invited to this party, we weren't selected to be Cocoon testers. Haibara: But, to be able to experience historical events in such a game, it would be a bit interesting, wouldn't it? Genta: Right? Mitsuhiko: It would feel just like time travel, wouldn't it? Conan: But it's just a game. Ayumi: Conan-kun's not so good at computer games, is he? Genta: He's still having a hard time with Final Quest. Mitsuhiko: You're surprisingly inept with those. Conan: Shut up... CUT TO: Party Hall Kogoro Mouri: Lotsa people and lotsa booze! Ran: Dad! It seems important members of the police are coming too, so don't drink too much. Kogoro Mouri: I know that! Expensive wines won't cause bad hangovers! Conan (Thinking): That's not what she meant.. Genta: It's all you can eat here, right? Mitsuhiko: Yeah, probably. Genta: Lucky, lucky! Ayumi: Those kids are the lucky ones. Mitsuhiko: Seeing as how they're getting their game entry badges, it seems they're the children rumored to have been chosen for today's game. Kogoro Mouri: The grandson of the police deputy superintendent general, the grandson of a big wheel in the financial world, the son of a government politician.. those who will command Japan's future, and shape the next two or three generations. Seiichiro Kikukawa: I detect several jealous glances. Akira Emori: Yeah! Haibara: It's like a condensed representation of Japan's evil hereditary government system. Every looks at Haibara Ai in astonishment. Haibara: It's due to things like the hereditary system that's the faults of human history are repeated. Ayumi: Haibara-san, I don't understand what you're saying. Conan (whispering to Haibara): You know, I've told you to talk more like a child. Haibara: The son of a politician will become a politician. The son of a president will become a president. As such, no matter how time pa**es, Japan will not change. (Laughs) Or something like that! It was all on the news yesterday! (To Conan) Well? How was that? Conan (thinking): Scary.. Sonoko Suzuki: Ran! Ran Mouri: Sonoko! Sonoko: Hi, boys and girls! Mitsuhiko: Sonoko-san, could that badge be.. Sonoko: Oh, this? Ran Mouri: Could it be that Sonoko was chosen too? Sonoko: It's because the Suzuki Financial Group provided funding support for the game's development. Mitsuhiko: Must be nice.. Genta: I wanna play too.. Hideki Moroboshi: Just give up. Your social standing is different. Shinya Takizawa: First of all, were you all even invited? Sonoko: That's rude! These kids are obviously my invited guests. Seiichiro Kikukawa: My, my.. the daughter of the Suzuki Financial Group. Hideki Moroboshi: Listen up. For us human beings, our lives are decided at birth. Akira Emori: Right, right! Even fine clothes are only suitable for select people! Shinya Takizawa: Those not chosen should just stay outside and bite their fingers as they look on. Genta: This lot, they're making me angry.. Ran: Father, come lecture them! Kogoro Mouri: Do you know, kids? Don't make fun of other people's lives. Even your seemingly smooth lives would have pitfalls. You shall understand when you become adults. Hideki Moroboshi: Like having your wife run away? I know about you, old man. "Sleeping Kogoro". It's because your wife left while you were sleeping that you were stuck with that nickname, right? Kogoro Mouri: You brats! Ran: It's not while he was asleep! My mom left when dad was in the bathroom! Right? Conan (Under Shinichi Kudou's Voice): Not the best thing to follow up with.. Hideki Moroboshi: Hey, let's play a mini game. Conan: If you think about those kids inheriting their parent's jobs, and then becoming Japan's leaders.. the future looks pretty hopeless, huh? Haibara: Agreed. Akira Emori: Me, me, me! Seiichiro, Hideki, Akira, and Shinya make a mess while playing their "mini game." The Game Developer-In-Charge, Tadaki Kashimura, stops them. Hideki Moroboshi: What're you doing? Shinya Takizawa: Give it back! Tadaki Kashimura: You're bothering the other guests. Go outside if you'd like to play. Hideki Moroboshi: Who're you, old man? Tadaki Kashimura: I'm the one in charge of Cocoon's development, Kashimura. Akira Emori: It's only because of grandpa's bank that you could finish the game! Tadaki Kashimura: Didn't your mother and father teach you how to behave properly in public? And, how you should address your elders? Shinya Takizawa: Such a big shot. Akira Emori: We won't lend you money anymore! Seiichiro Kikukawa: Old man, don't you know about us? Hideki Moroboshi: If you stand in our way, you might get fired tomorrow. Tadaki Kashimura: In that case, I should throw you out before that happens. Hideki Moroboshi: Let's go. Sonoko: That man just now was so cool! Quite a contrast from a certain someone.. Professor Agasa and Yusako Kudo step out to the red carpet of Beika City Hall. Professor Agasa: Shinichi-kun should be here. After so long, you probably want to talk privately as father and son, right? Yusako Kudo: Professor, I need you to keep my relationship with him to yourself. Professor Agasa: I know.
