George Eliot - Silas Marner lyrics

"In old days there were angels who came and took men by the hand and led them away from the city of destruction. We see no white-winged angels now. But yet men are led away from threatening destruction: a hand is put into theirs, which leads them forth gently towards a calm and bright land, so that they look no more backward; and the hand may be a little child's."(George Elliot Chapter 14) This quote is about Eppie bringing the faith of God into Marner's life. When Marner lost his gold he felt helpless because he was losing faith in God. Marner found Eppie when her mother dropped her and thought to himself that Eppie is a blessing. Eppie was the replacement for his gold. When Eppie came into his life he started to believe in God. Which showed the theme of faith in the book, Eppie is a angel to Silas because of his gold being lost and Eppie replacing it. Marner was betrayed and left alone in Lantern Yard and when his gold was stolen. Everyone thought he was a heartless man until Eppie brought life to him.
