Genius - The Ultimate Transcriber's Guide lyrics

Hi! If you've been sent to this page, it's because we think you have what it takes to become one of Genius' top transcribers! This page will introduce you to all facets of the transcribers' community. Just follow these easy five steps and you'll be ready to go! First things first, it's important that you know what you're doing. STEP ONE: Read and review this page on how to transcribe music on Genius! Odds are you've already transcribed a few songs, but this way we're all on the same page. It's important to comply with each of Genius' formatting requirements. If you have any questions about whether you're doing this correctly, feel free to ask! STEP TWO: Check out and follow the Transcribers forum! Right when you get there, I'd recommend clicking the little yellow ‘follow' bu*ton near the top of the page. This will keep you updated with everything that goes on in the world of transcription, help you network and collaborate with other transcribers, and allow you to be one of the first responders when someone needs help understanding some lyrics. If you have an album/mixtape/project that you want help finishing, feel free to create a post in the forums about it! Don't get too sidetracked, however, because you aren't quite done with the process yet. STEP THREE: Check out the Scribe-a-thon! This is a great way for new users to build up their clout by adding a bunch of songs to their resume and get the hang of transcribing. It's easy to enter and a super cool opportunity that you should take advantage of :) STEP FOUR: Connect with some of Genius' top transcribers! Finding friends is super important in life, but it can also help on Genius. These users are super friendly and always willing to help out! They can also be influential if you decide to pursue editorship. Go check out these transcribers! Make sure to follow them so you can remain up to date on new site activity! - Freeus - Streetlights - WriteNProppa - Ben Carter - Drew Harvie And many more... STEP FIVE: TRANSCRIBE! The absolute best place to look for things to transcribe is the album release calendar. This is where your sk**s can be put to use. If you'd rather transcribe something that isn't on the list that's fine too. You're encouraged to add to the list if it's a 2016 release. Using these five steps, you should be able to find something to transcribe, someone to do it with, and all of the proper tools to do it right. SO, WHERE DO I GO FROM HERE? Genius has hierarchy of users, all with different powers and abilities. Right now you're a contributor, which means you only have the basic tools. The next level is editor, who are able to accept and edit annotations. The highest level is moderator, which comes with a lot of meta level site permissions, such as deleting and hiding songs. As a contributor, you should be able to transcribe fairly easily. Still there are some advantages to becoming an editor. - You get to use Genius chat - You can fix metadata, album covers, and release dates - You can edit locked songs It is probably in your best interest to attempt to become an editor. First it's crucial that you check out this page for more info on the position. You can't become an editor based on transcriptions alone, which means you need to have strong annotations. The best course of action is to seek out a coach. Chances are you've been sent here by one, in which case you're already on your way. A coach will help you create awesome annotations and learn the sk**s necessary to become editor. Feel free to hit anyone on this page up about being coached. The most important part about transcribing is to stay connected! There is a constant stream of new music being released to the world, and the more help we can get the better. If you think you're up to the task, we'd love to have you join the team :)
