Although they hail from the Netherlands (where they first formed in 1997, in the town Zeist), Detonation perform melodic d**h metal in the vein of Swedish acts like Dark Tranquility and In Flames. Featuring vocalist and guitarist Koen Romeijn, guitarist Mike Ferguson, ba**ist Otto Schimmelpenninck, and drummer Thomas Kalksma, the group financed both 1998's Crushed Skull and 1999's Lost Euphoria EPs themselves before eventually hooking up with France's Osmose Productions for a pair of albums, 2003's An Epic Defiance and 2005's Portals to Uphobia. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia, All Music Guide
