Dagorlad was founded by the Belgian duo of Patrick De Vidts (aka AOD, vocals) and Philippe Gandibleu (aka Count Zaroff, guitar, ba**, keyboards, programmed percussion), whose self-described "dark, atmospheric, medieval heavy metal" was first presented to modern-day humans via 1999's Incantations album. Immediately drawing comparisons to similarly black metal-based and Dark Ages-fascinated acts such as England's Bal-Sagoth and Austria's Summoning, Dagorlad released a second, more ambitious album entitled The End of the Dark Ages in 2002 -- by which time Gandibleu was working with a new vocalist named Frederic Mercier. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia, All Music Guide
