1) My favorite story from the anthology so far is “A Fable with Slips of White Paper Spilling from the Pockets by Kevin Brockmeier. I really enjoyed this story because of the story line. I've always loved fairytales and stories that are out of this world and not realistic. The beginning especially caught my attention because of its typically “one there was a…” opening line. Once there was a dog that happened to drink from a stream that turned him into a human being. He didn't notice until he was happily prancing away from the stream thankful for the fresh water. The gra** and twigs underneath him have never bothered him before, but for some reason the ground was hurting him. He stopped to check his hind legs only to find his knee joints on the ground and stretched out behind them calves and feet with five human toes on them. He felt like his heart just dropped into his stomach; what in the world happened to him? He tried to sprint back through the forest to go home, but his new legs failed to carry him as fast as he was used to. I'm never going to make it home on these things, Billie thought to himself. He decided to try to stand up just as his owners do, but he immediately toppled over and hit the ground hard. Being a human is hard. They make it look so fun, but I can't even walk two feet without looking like baby Carly. She was born a year ago and I am almost seven, how humiliating. I guess I should have listened to the songbird when he told me the water in the stream is enchanted. 2) 1) “The nearest fresh water is under a tree marked with carvings,” bird said to dog. “But don't drink from it, it rumored to have powers beyond your imagination.” 2) This thirst has been torturing me for hours; if I don't find an area with fresh water soon my life will be ruined. 3) The forest that surrounds me is full of new and interesting things; trees, bugs, animals, flowers, everything I could ever imagine except water. 4) Wandering away from my home for a day is the best idea I've ever had. 5) There was once a dog named Billie who decided to take an adventure away from his owners. 6) In a far away neighborhood, Billie the dog wandered away from home and discovered the enchanted land of the nearby forest. 7) Billie the dog was just like any other housedog; he loved his owners and loved to play outside. One day he wandered off and discovered the captivating forest. 8) Wandering through the forest, Billie thought of all the wonderful things he was about to discover. 9) Looking up in the sky, Billie saw the treetops surrounding him and continued down the path towards fresh water. 10) Water, water, water, I need water or I will go insane and never be able to find my way out of this forest.
