He believed monkeys are our cousins
We have common ancestors
Millions of years ago
He explained surprisingly
All species came about through evolution
It was a revolutionary idea
It brought tremendous protests
The clergy did not like it a bit
They fought it with tooth and nail
To our days this brings controversy
Some have accepted heartedly
Other sneer at it
They swear by God it is false and a heresy
