The Beast: (Talking through the ood) You little things that live in the light, clinging to your feeble suns, which die in the end...
Zachary Cross Flane: That's not the ood. Something's talking through them.
The Beast: Only the darkness remains.
Zachary Cross Flane: This is Zachary Cross Flane of Sanctuary Base 6 representing the Torchwood Archive. You will identify yourself.
The Beast: You know my name.
Zachary Cross Flane: What do you want?
The Beast: You will die here, all of you. This planet is your grave.
The Doctor: If you are the beast, then answer me this -which one, hmm? Because the universe has been busy since you've been gone. These's more religions than there are planets in the sky. There's the Arkaphets, Christianity, Pash-Pash, New Judaism, San Claar, Church of the Tin Vagabond, which devil are you?
The Beast: All of them!
The Doctor: Then you're... what? The truth behind the myth?
The Beast: This one knows me, as I know him: the k**er of his own kind.
The Doctor: (He pauses) How did you end up on this rock?
The Beast: The Disciples of the light rose up against me and chained me in the pit for all eternity.
The Doctor: When was this?
The Beast: Before time.
The Doctor: What does "before time" mean?
The Beast: Before time and light and space and matter. Before the cataclysm. Before this universe was created.
The Doctor: That's impossible. No life could have existed back then.
The Beast: Is that your religion?
The Doctor: (He pauses) It's a belief.
The Beast: You know nothing. All of you, so small.
The Beast: (To Zachary Cross Flane) The captain, so scared of command.
The Beast: (To Mr. Jefferson) The soldier, haunted by the eyes of his wife.
The Beast: (To Ida Scott) The scientist, still running from daddy.
The Beast: (To Danny Bartock) The little boy who lied.
The Beast: (To Toby Zed) The virgin.
The Beast: (To Rose Tyler) And the lost girl, so far away from home. The valiant child who will die in battle so very soon.
Rose: (Worried) Doctor, what does that mean?
The Doctor: Rose, don't listen.
Rose: What does it mean!
The Beast: You will die - and I will live! (He roars with laughter)
Danny Bartock: What the hell was that?
Toby Zed: I had that thing inside my head.
Rose Tyler: Doctor, what did it mean?
Danny Bartock: What do we do?! Jefferson?
Mr. Jefferson: (Using his communications device to talk with Zach) Captain, what's the situation of strategy nine? Captain, report!
Danny Bartock: Zach - what do we do?
Toby Zed: (Terrified) The orbit, the planet, the black hole - everything's true.
Everyone begins to panic, frantically talking over one another. The Doctor creates a loud sound over his communications device using a magnetic piece of metal from the elevator shaft.
The Doctor: You want voices in the dark then listen to mine. That thing is playing on very basic fears. Darkness, childhood, nightmares - all that stuff.
Danny Bartock: But that's how the devil works.
The Doctor: Or a good psychologist.
Ida Scott: (In disbelief) How did it know about my father?!
The Doctor: Okay but what makes his version of the truth any better than mine, hmm? 'Cause I'll tell you what I can see - humans! Brilliant humans - humans who traveled all the way across space flying in a tiny little rocket right into the orbit of a black hole, just for the sake of discovery - that's amazing! D'you hear me?! Amazing - all of you! The captain, his officer, his elder, his juniors, his friends! All with one advantage - the beast is alone, we are not. If we can use that fight against... (He is interrupted by the the elevator cable snapping)
Ida Scott: (In shock) The cable's snapped!
The Doctor: Get out!
There is a short pause.
Rose Tyler: (Attempting to talk with The Doctor over her communications device) Doctor? We lost the cable - Doctor are you alright?! Doctor!
