All that sand
He'd kick it and swear, watch it run through his hands
It filled his shoes in the day
It filled his nights as he lay there awake
He was not handsome, and not very strong
With no prospects to keep a girl for long - and so he'd pray
"I come to you trying to make some sense
Of this mess that I am, can you help me here friend?
I know I'm no good, I know I'm not loved
But I'd just like to show you what I'm capable of"
He knew this much
If it ever got too hard, he could quietly give up
He'd offer his seat every chance
But never a smile, not a small word of thanks
Then she arrived and drew him in
Smelled so sweet, thought she might be a friend - so he said
"Such pretty blue eyes, can I take your hand?
We'll walk down this street, run our feet in the sand
I know I'm no good, I know I'm not loved
But I'd just like to show you what I'm capable of."
And when he finally made her smile
The sun opened up for miles
Then she laughed, and how black she laughed
He cursed himself, "Oh why do I spend my trust
On these hearts filled with blacknes?" his anger swelled up
He left her in ruins, she was never to love
And he certainly showed her what he's capable of
