In the beginning, God, You created life
morality Yours to define, the wrong from the right
and You created love when You gave man the freedom to choose
You said it was good and good means perfect with You
but this is the part of the story we don't like to tell
that with the freedom You gave, man chose to rebel
because of their choice men lost You face to face
the first and the worst mistake could not be erased
but, God, Your love was stronger than our sin
You promised to make, a way to make us whole again
and even though on the outside we're wasting away
the hope and restoration grows stronger with every day
in my weakness You are strong

we make ourselves our own gods of foolish mutiny
we exchanged Your truth for a lie and attributed life to the dead
ignoring the Artist we're praising the painting instead
but all our pursuits are like building a house on the sand
and when the tide crashes upon us, our work will not stand
