Prison is more than just cells, locks, and keys
It is a new form of slavery motivated by greed
Just like the old slaves, the new slaves suffer
In fact it could be said that new slaves have it rougher
Identities stripped and self-concepts shattered
Prisoners are constantly reminded that they just don't matter
Becoming no more than a number with no less of a soul
Prisoners serve time in a system with no justifiable goal
The innocent public thinks reasonability must prevail
But when prison corporations went public that ship officially sailed
Profits lead to laws demanding hard time
Politicians all proud to be "tough on crime"
Although ma** imprisonment is not supported by reason, nor rhyme
With money at stake people are known to act cruel
But History has been disguised so the pattern isn't recognized and the public can be fooled
Little blame has been placed on the old slave masters
And history repeats creating a modern disaster
It is time that the public engages in scrutiny
Power to the people - we can beat the system with logic and unity
