“Heroes are not born, they are made.” That is the most popular saying when describing a hero, because no one is born a hero or created as one. They go through an adventure or a process to become a hero and this process is called an Epic Hero Monomyth. The two heroes that were chosen for this topic are Luke Skywalker from the movie Star Wars and Iron Man from the movie Iron Man. This essay will explain why these two heroes fit the Epic Hero Monomyth and show what they went through to become a hero and what a true hero is. Luke Skywalker started off as a simple farm boy who couldn't wait to leave his home planet; some might even call him a whiney teenager. But this status quo changes when he goes on an adventure. Luke, along with a former Jedi-knight, a space pirate and his wookie, and two droids go and rescue a princess named Lea. Lea is a member of the rebel alliance who is also being held captive by Darth Vader. Luke and the others sneak into the d**h star to rescue the princess only to be sidetracked by the garbage shoot. Obi-won, the Jedi-knight is k**ed by his former apprentice who just happens to be Darth Vader. Now Luke is without a master and is trying to figure out what to do next. Luke figured he'd help the rebels by destroying the d**h star, which was rewarding. Luke was also rewarded with a medal by Princess Lea. Iron Man or as everyone else knows him as Tony Stark was a playboy millionaire who made weapons for the military, but when attacked by the enemy he had awakened in a cave to find a heart monitor attached to him thus changing his status quo, once he is shown what his weapons had done to others, he plans to escapes by making an armored suit out of scrapes with the help of a fellow prisoner luckily he successes and return home, once returned to his home he makes an announcement that he will no longer create weapons for the military but his business partner Obadiah feels that he is making a big mistake and goes behind his back. Although Obadiah tried to destroy Tony and take his company away from him he had failed at this attempt. so Obadiah created an armored suit much like the one tony used to escape from his captors, leaving tony no choice but to face Obadiah and prevent him from harming others with he own invention. After defeating Obadiah Tony stark announced to the public that he was Iron Man changing his and others lives completely.
I believe that Iron man makes the best role model for the Epic Hero Monomyth because Iron man had experienced more than Luke did during his adventure of being a hero, the fact that iron man was captured and held as a hostage with only a heart monitor keeping himself alive shows that even after all that he went through he still defend others who couldn't defend themselves, and he took a huge If not risky step by telling the world he is iron man when it was thought best to keep it a secret , but personally to me I think that took a whole lot of courage to do. Luke Skwalker and Iron Man are two very different heroes who have similar qualities, for example they both lose someone that they care about, Luke loses his aunt and uncle while Tony loses a trusted friend namely Obadiah, they both matured throughout the story, and they both decide to do the right thing and stand up against their enemy. But these two heroes are still, no matter the reason are very different from each other so the decision that I made was a hard one to make none the less I stand by what I said and that is the person with the most experience will have more wisdom than the other and will prove the reason why they are the better hero also they will prove that heroes are not born or created but are made.
