I've traveled far I've traveled wide
I've sifted through the earth; I've searched the sky
Seeking the fairest Flower that grows --the Persian Rose
The hour is late, the world's asleep.
In darkness I see the Rose and my heart weeps.
But still that fragrance draws me to the bower -- the Persian Flower
The Persian Rose
Tell me, have you seen it?
Tell me, have you touched it?
Tell me in what garden does it grow?
I tell you, I must have it. I must make it mine.
You think me a madwoman sifting through the sand.
Oh no, those are rose petals in my hands.
God, is there no mercy?
Now my restless journey leads me to a wall.
I scale the fearful height; I slip and fall.
But when I open up my eyes,
A Garden surrounds me -- Paradise.
And here at the end of my troubled path, it grows -- The Persian Rose.
I've traveled far; I've traveled wide.
I've sifted through the earth; I've searched the sky.
To lose the world and gain a soul.
Tumble to my knees; rise to the goal.
Oh, the madman and the lover surely know
They must fall who would embrace the Rose.
