My mountain trail ends
At Old Persevere Peak
I made it through the Falls
When suddenly a shadow great
Consumed these tired cliff walls
Amazing is its wing span
So fearless in the sky
Its monstrous shadow cooled me
Eyes guided me from high
It circles round that rocky gorge
With smaller birds en-tow
Then off it flew, beyond my sight
The sun now sinking low
The home fires call me to return
My friend is not in sight
A lonesome trek back to the camp
Where is my care tonight?
When just as I reach trail's end
I feel a wind aloft
And there's ole Eagle perched so high
On yonder Craggy Rock
He will not end his mission
'Till I am safe asleep
And even then, I know he's there
My guardian and my keep
