[Abiodun Oyemole of Last Poets]
We are the revolution
We are the changes in the seasons, replenishing the earth of her love
We are the scorching hot sun to melt the frozen snow
And hearts turned to stone, we condense to air
Even the birds make room for us to fly higher than they ever could
NASA has always been unnecessary; machines cannot take the flight of the Spirit
We are the revolution
Reaching inside ourselves to discard the waste of a destructive ingestion
Reorganizing the function of our organs
Filtering the air for our lungs to breathe
Allowing our ears to hear, our tongues to taste, our hearts to feel
Our minds to think, our eyes to see
There isn't a hint of a scent
That we could not detect to prevent us from danger, and direct our anger
We are the revolution
After having wallowed in the filth and frustration of a Toby experience
We embrace our Roots, sturdy our stance
And solve this festering problem that has lingered much too long
And out of the shadows of our divine blackness, a light appears
Hope returns to infancy
Wishes are whimsical limbs blowing in the benevolent breeze of change
The change has come
We are the prayers that have been answered
We are the gold, refined
We are the climax of a love affair
The grace of a blessing
We are diamonds of a perfect cut
We are the solution
We are the revolution
[Amir Sulaiman]
We are the revolution
Dearly beloved, we are created to rise above this
Toxic product, this corporate culprit
That's why I speak with a voice somewhere in between
Your pastor in a pulpit and a hijacker in a co*kpit
Screaming, "we are the revolution, we are the revolution!"
And my people [are] so sick
They never really spit so sick
And between brother and brother
The relationship [is] in crisis;
Our relationships are priceless
But we sell them cheap for whatever the price is
Like a young Cain and Abel
Or the houses of Ismael and Isaac
And we snitch on our brother
Cause thats how them devils entice us
Them cops press your bu*tons and you flip on your sidekick
Quicker than you press the bu*ton
When the screen flips on your Sidekick
I'm scrolling through my contacts in search of the righteous
Praying the Lord send me someone g'd up like Jesus
Flipping over tables in the Temple
Cause that's how real Christ is
And that's how real life is
Al hum du Allah, we are the revolution
When we live like this
[Outtro]
(we are the revolution)
Brothers and sisters, ho's and n***as
Hold your soul and listen:
We are caught in a system
From the 'hood to the 'burbs, from the church to the curb
From the colleges where they teach to the blocks where they serve
Seeds by fathers are sheep to the slaughter
We've gotta hold our sons and our daughters
Although our fathers ain't bother
(we are the revolution)
You brothers, you sisters, you ho's and you n***as
Hold your soul and listen:
We all got to change this system
From the 'hood to the 'burbs, to the mosque, to the curb
From the colleges where they teach to the blocks where they serve
You brothers, you sisters, you ho's and you n***as
